Davis VantagePro2 Win98SE USB driver please help

Hi,

I really need some help!

My Weatherlink 5.8.2 USB works just fine on my Windows XP machine but I really need to run it on my Windows 98SE machine.

When I connect the USB it says, “Found new hardware: CP2102 USB to UART Bridge Controller.”

No matter what I do it can’t find the correct driver to run it.

Please help!

Thanks,
Jim

Wow, 6 years later?

The company that makes the CP2102 is Silicon Labs, that’s a link to the driver download page and they also have a forum that may help under “Community & Support”.

As I recall (it’s a long time ago) Win98SE needed a patch for USB to work correctly.

Yes, 6 years later! Time really flies as one gets older!

I will be moving my station off grid and need to use my old laptop for Weatherlink. I’m trying to save money, as it still works, but the USB driver thing is not working. I went to Silicon Labs and downloaded the driver but what the instructions say and what actually happens on my computer are two different things.

What more do you know about this patch?

Thank you!

Did you download an old driver or the current one? There’s an old one here http://www.chinstruments.com/USB_416.shtml

I’m old and it’s a long time ago, I do recall that win98 usb needed some because didn’t work “out of the box” but that’s about all :dontknow:

That’s funny you’d send me that because that was the exact website I went to today and that’s the driver I downloaded and the instructions which didn’t match what happened on my computer!

I followed those instructions but never got to the driver showing in the device manager…

Hmm…

Maybe you have a better idea to run Weatherlink USB with a very low power consumption. I thought of getting one of these http://www.dell.com/us/p/inspiron-3050-micro-desktop/pd?ref=PD_OC but not sure if Weatherlink runs on Windows 10.

I use a low spec/low power use Net PC myself and now have windows 10 on it

and WD works OK On it too

(and they are relatively cheap too)

Well, they do say the screenshots are XP :?

I think I would post the Q on the silicon labs forum.

True, I did see that the instructions are Win XP… oh, well. I shall check the Silicon Labs forum.

Meanwhile, maybe I ought to just get a new, low power PC, like that Dell thing… if you think it will work for me.

Yep, low power, modern PC, and an OS that’s not old enough to drink would be the best way to go.

Ah! I just found this http://www.ambientweather.com/airbridge.html which seems to be exactly what I need.
