Beginner webcam
« on: September 02, 2012, 12:57:27 PM »
Hi all

I have been taking cloud and weather photos for years but want to try some stop motion videos now that I am retired. I have a couple of webcams but when I point them outside the light just floods the image and no amount of software fiddling seems to help. So I am after a new webcam which will work when pointed at a fairly bright sky. (Live in north UK so it is never very bright!) I don't have a lot of spare cash being retired so a lot of webcams I see mentioned on these forums are outside my budget. Is there anything which will work which costs less than $100/£60.
Thanks a lot
John

I have just been trying out a new camera from Tenvis called the IpRobot3. You can see details here
http://www.tenvis.com/

The image quality is quite good and it has a better display at 1280x720. Retailing at £80 from Cmac in Southampton but can be found cheaper if you buy from a Eastern supplier. Still needs some bugs to be sorted. Support is quite active and there is a forum accessible from the same page.

Foscam are also bringing out a similar one but is likely to be over the £100 mark.

Regards

David

I just ordered an Agasio A503 webcam for $69US.  It's an indoor pan/tilt with IR lamps.  I had one last year (that I returned) that would illuminate out 20 feet easy.  I'm going to use this one as security cam.  These cams do not like to be pointed at or near the sun as they wash out, but I was impressed with the image produced for these relatively cheap cams.
