Sinus Full Wireless Weather Station
« on: June 04, 2012, 06:26:54 PM »
Hallo

I have a La Cross 2350 which unfortunately got zapped when the telephone line near us got his by lightning. It also took my computer out as well. Have not been able to do anything about it until now.

I am thinking of replacing it with something a bit better and came across  "Sinus Full Wireless Weather Station". See link here

http://www.weather-station-products.co.uk/sinus-wireless-weather-station

I cannot see any reports on it and am wondering if it as good as it claims to be. If not are there any other recommendations in that price range?

Also would WW be able to read from it.

Thanks

David

Regards

David

Looking at the sensors I would say it's the same as a Nexus, which will work with WD.

Thank you.

Do you think that this is a re-badged Nexus?

I'm not sure.
I did have a quick look around and the Nexus consoles don't have the same configuration so I'm not 100%.

It's a TFA station and this refers to the nexus and sinus software, so IMHO it's the same interface, but I don't have one to be able to confirm that. It's also a lot cheaper via Amazon UK.

Thanks and for the link

Wondered if it might be the same. So presumably the same circuitry under the skin.

How reliable are TFA products and do they work well with WD.

Hi David

I have the TFA Nexus, and I believe the Sinus is nearly the same, except the Nexus has solar powered anemometer. It's also know as Irox and Honeywell TE923...

My station is about 2,5 years old, and I'm very satisfied with it. In the start I had some problems with sensor dropouts, but after buying a new quality usb cable, and rearrangeing the sensors, I had no trouble for over one year now. Also I've modified the rain gauge to 0,2mm, and build a solar in a jar sensor. Everything working smooth under WD :)

So I highly recommend it, and a good budget station!

You could also find try search the forums - there's more threats about this station. Also I've seen a guy modified the antenna....

Hi and thanks for you reply.

I hadn't managed to find anyone else using the Sinus so was considering an Oregon instead, but it you think the Nexus is similar I will have a search for that.

Presumably it works ok with Weather Display.

The station display looks identical, but I don't know the detailes - datalogger, number of sensors etc.

I would be sure, that the anemometer has solar. I haven't changed batteries for 2,5 years, because of the solar I guess :)

I have download the manuals for both of them. One of the differences seems to be the data storage which is much larger on the Nexus. This was one of the shortcomings of the WS2300. I like to shut my computer down overnight.

Have you needed to contact TFA Dorstmann - was wondering what their support was like.

The other possibility is the Oregon WMR180 but from what I can see it does not store any wind data - can anyone confirm that?

Hi

I've contacted TFA once, when my brothers Nexus dropped the blade on the anemometer. They sent a new one very fast - no issues with that.

I had a Nexus one and it worked OK for about a year, the wireless is not very strong and it frequently annoyed by dropping out during interesting events like heavy rain.
We are exposed here, and the anemometer somehow fell to pieces one windy night.
The thermometer/humidity sensor had to be replaced.
I bought two in fact and used one for ground temperature but that didn't last long as one of the new ones packed up after a few weeks.
In summary better than the really cheap ones like watson copies but much better to bite the bullet and pay a bit more for a Vue perhaps.

Thanks for the replies.

Unfortunately the Vue is way out of my league so will have to take my chances with the budget range. It seems you will always read of problems of these weather stations how ever much you pay.

After further reading I have more or less decided on the Nexus. The data storage on the Oregon is too limited.

Did consider the Primus but that has less storage capacity and the console does not have a mains connection, only battery.

According to the manual the data logger updates at a minimum of 5 minutes, but can WD update more frequently than that all the time it is running@

Also there are extra inputs - can these be converted for any other data input, or if not what is the recommended use for these.

Thanks

David
