Davis Vantage Vue USB data logger update problem
BBezerk:
I have Vantage Vue connected thru a USB with WeatherLink to collect my data. I've been running fine for a couple of years (recently upgraded to WL 6.0) with only the occasional drop out. Lately its been happening more often. It goes through all the steps like its actually doing the download but the data file doesn't update. The only way I've been able to fix it is to pull the batteries out to completely reset the Vue. It starts working again but I lose the data since the last time it worked -- which means I have to check every day -- which I dont.
Anybody know what to do so this doesn't happen?
Budgie:
I don't use WeatherLink but I'll give you some things to try and have worked for the Weather Display software.
1. Make sure you are using the latest drivers, the ones on the WeatherLink CD & on the Davis site are well out of date.
The latest can be found here: http://www.silabs.com/products/mcu/Pages/USBtoUARTBridgeVCPDrivers.aspx
2. If you're using a Windows 7 PC, make sure the USB power save functions are disabled as these can close the USB ports even when they are being used.
3. If these don't work then try a different USB cable, one with ferrite chokes at either end, in case there is interference getting through.
You say the only way to start the data stream again is to shut down the console, restarting WeatherLink or re-booting the PC don't work?
If not then it may be a console or datalogger issue, in which case an email to Davis Support may be worth a try.
BBezerk:
thanks for the tips. I got the new drivers and disabled my USB power savings. Now its wait and see. Its been losing data about once a week so I'll try to remember to follow up on this post even if doesn't lose data -- if it does, I'll add to the post and try number 3 on your list.
Thankz
BBezerk:
well, its been almost 2 weeks now and no loss of data. I dont know if it was #1 or #2 on the list so I'm keeping my fingers crossed I dont have to go to #3.
Budgie:
It may have been both.
Still, at least it's working and you can sit back and enjoy it now.
