Current conditions...
« on: April 27, 2012, 01:59:14 PM »
Hello all.

Been deluged with rain lately here so it gets me back to my one and only gripe about this great software.

When it starts to rain, i see the rain total on the gauge increase by one increment. Why does it take so long for my current conditions to say light rain or whatever. It must be close on a couple of minutes for it to say that it's raining. How can i get it to show light rain as soon as the gauge increases a notch. Wdl must know it's raining for the gauge to increase. Am i missing a setting or got one screwed up somewhere. Any ideas if it's a Wd or Wdl setting. I had thought it could be the setting to check back for recent rain in wd but don't really want to mess with it.
As i said very happy, but this one issue bugs me.

Cheers Steve.

Do you download a METAR?
If so then check the following:

1. Control Panel > Summary Images & Icons > Icon from METAR > Tick "Your station's rain/wind/fog overrides the METAR" and untick all other boxes on this page.

2. Control Panel > Units & Other Settings > Rainfall Setup > there should be no tick in "Ignore first rain of the day (dew in gauge).

3. Control Panel > Units & Other Settings > Weather Icon Setup > METAR to Set Icon > no ticks an any box other than "Your stations rain/wind/fog overrides the METAR" - this should be set when you set #1 above but check it anyway.

4. Control Panel > FTP & Connections > METAR Download > Tick in the box marked "Do not use the rain from the metar.

That's all I can think of at the moment.

Cheers Budgie

No metar downloaded but that ignore first tip looks interesting.

Will have a look later.

Interested if other wdl users have a similar length delay in showing it raining.

Thanks
Steve

Hello.

Vantage pro 2,
Using version 10.37q
It rained recently and i watched the rainguage in WDL go up an increment. It took nearly 2 minutes for the current conditions to say rain.

Checked wdl config and ignore icon keywords is set to 1
No tick in ignore first tip of the day.

I do have it ticked for Wd to use Vp2 rainrate  and use rain totals from console.
Checked settings to check back for recent rain etc and they are 15,15 and 60.

Hope this helps

Steve.

The last build of 10.37Q was released in November 2011 so your version is quite out of date in WD terms.
I would advise updating to the latest version (10.37R build 24) to make sure this has not already been corrected. It will also make it easier for Brain to diagnose any issues, rather than having to look back to see what has changed in the program since November.

As for the Rain Check back, I use 20, 5 & 60 on my own setup.

one of the things is that the data to check for if it is raining is updated every minute
and so that rain fall increase takes a minute to get to that data record, and is then used to update the conditions on the next minute
(the actual rain value increase is updated to WDL at the rate the clientraw.txt is updated/uploaded, ie every few seconds or so)

Ok.

Thanks WD and Budgie.

I will update the version soon.

So Brian should i change any settings such as check back for rain to the same as Budgie's or is that about the best i'm going to get?
Looks as though your saying that approx 2 minutes is about right?
Apart from this i'm very happy with the software.

Cheers
Steve.
