WD with AcuRite 5in1
« on: February 02, 2012, 03:44:00 PM »
Hello,

I have been test driving WD with the new capability of working with my AcuRite 01025. I am about halfway through
the trial period. Up until yesterday, the data to WeatherUnderground and CWOP was good. However now I
occasionally get bad data spikes in the one minute log file (which shows up on WD graphs, and occasionally on
WU and CWOP), namely wind and wind gusts (ie. like 49g166).  The only thing I changed in the past couple days was
to increase wind speed offset to 30%. I have also tried adjusting the bad data q/c limits for check for spikes. I am not
sure exactly how this works, but my current setting for wind and wind gust are 30 for wind and 40 for wind gust. The
time was default at 70 seconds. I changed this today to a shorter time of 20 seconds.  Should this be shorter or a longer
time?

I should add this occasional bad data does not show up in the AcuRite console or downloaded 12 min data, only in WD.
Also, I am using Build 7 version in trial period.

Any help appreciated.

Hi
I am not exactly sure why these spikes are occuring yet
but I will hopefully be able to work it out
in the mean time, make sure to be using the latest version
(which now gets indoor temp/hum (USB mode 3)

Brian,

Wow. Thanks for your speedy reply. With all the trouble us 5in1 folks have been having with the AcuRite
portal, your WD option is really a NICE OPTION!.  Yes, I will plan to update to latest build version asap.  I
was hoping that you could add the indoor temp/RH functionality, and now you have. Thanks.

Am I doing the right thing by tweaking the limit thresholds for the data spikes?  Is that time threshold
important too, when deciding to keep or throw out the data?

HI
make sure to set the max/min in the limits setup (not the spikes setup)
what I will do though for the next WD update is add some data filtering
i.e compare the data to the previous data and reject if a an outlier

Brian,

I set the wind offset back to 0% last evening, and I have gotten no more occasional erroneous wind gusts.
Not sure if this is just coincidence. If not, was wondering if the wind offset has a bug which occasionally
reports this bad data (via its calculation routine)?  I will leave it off the rest of today and see if I continue to
get good data.  If so, I will set an offset again on Saturday and see if the bad data comes back again.  Just
thought you would be interested.   I would really like to be able to apply an offset increase a bit, so any help
and fix is appreciated.  I take it that the check for spikes in data qc does not work? I have max/min limits sets,
but this would still allow bad data if it is within the limits (say less than 80 kts). Of course I do not want to set
limits too low. Like you said in a previous post, if we could qc and eliminate this data before it gets
logged in data base and sent out to world, it would be a plus.

Thanks,

actualy having that windspeed offset looks like was the problem
I was mistakingly adding the offset every data update...but not every data update contains a new windspeed update
I will get a new update ready now to fix that

Brian,

I updated to latest build 10. Thanks for adding indoor temp/rh and also addressing wind problem.
However, now I have encountered a new problem.  The ingest into the WD display seems to "time
out" quite frequently and goes 5 to sometime more than 10 mins before update starts again.  I can
see this in the log file quite easy by the redundant data, but also by watching the display (ie. not
change/update values).  Any guesses on what this new problem might be?

Thanks,

 Kevin

every 12 minutes WD will update the indoor temp/hum
which is done via a different data file, acurite2.dat
updated by the separate data gatherer
it a large file, i.e alot more data to process, to find the indoor/temp
it only takes 5 seconds to process the data on my pc
what speed pc?

I have a Dell Studio running Vista.  Think it is like 2.1G processor. 4G RAM. 64 bit.  What can I do to check and speed the
data flow, if anything?

Still getting the spikes, so I will turn off the offset. I hope you can work out it though, because I need a bit of an offset because of heavy forest located to the southwest of my sensor.

Interesting, as I do not get spikes in data anymore since updating to build 10 yesterday, though as you can see
in my post above I have a data update/logging issue now. Did you install latest build ctccbc?

every 12 minutes, how long is WD taking to update the indoor temp/data on the minute for you Thundr1?

ctccbc, make sure you have the latest version re the data spikes

If you mean by looking at the indoor data log file, i see it updates every minute. It updates in a very short amount of
time (matter of seconds) from what I can tell. However, I guess I need to check it for 12 mins or more to see when it
actually updates to the latest (new) downloaded temp/rh?  The funny thing is, the freezing of the outdoor data does not always
occur every 12 mins, and the time it freezes varies from a couple minutes to sometimes 20 min or so.  I am not a
computer guru but I did check CPU, memory usage, etc and I did not see any heavy, unusual usage.

I am at work now, so I can't do much more at the moment.  Is there anything I can check on my laptop (admin or
other usage monitor) to see what is exactly going on to help?
