Edit a PDF file

hello...

A friend asked me if I knew of any FREE software that can Edit PDF Files, like the PDF Files made by Adobe. Does anyone know or use any Such program that will edit an exsiting Adobe PDF File?

is there not a PDF writer from Adobe?
not sure though if that is a reader from which you can then write (edit)?
