wxlocal stopped working
« on: February 01, 2012, 03:22:14 PM »
Can anyone help me please.

For some reason, at midnight last night 23:59 31st Jan, the conversion of all wxlocal files to wx files ceased to function, and the production of graphics has also ceased. I normally update and upload hourly, and the 23:00 update was completed properly (well after I went to bed!), but nothing for 1st Feb. Clientraw and associated files have continued, as has the upload of the (outdated) files each hour.

The "frozen" site can be viewed at http://kirkcaldyweather.collins-family.me.uk.

I have checked under Internet File Creation & Upload > Setup Page 2 that all 5 pages are set to process and upload (two green lights) and their times are correct, "Main Switch" and "Override" are both checked on. Everything appears to be as I left it yesterday afternoon!

Grateful for any suggestions, please.

What does your FTP log show for the wxlocal files?

Are you running any Anti Virus software and if so was it just updated?

How about windows update?

Thanks for coming back, Bob.

FTP log confirms no problems in uploading files. Datestamps on server confirm "new" files added each hour, but content each time is same (old stuff) as at 23:00 last night.

No Windows updates took place overnight.

AVG Free antivirus software checks at 09:00 each morning so no updates overnight.

Grateful for any further help.

Tony,

Have you closed WD, making sure all aspects are actually closed and waiting for 5 minutes or so and then relaunch and see if they start back up?

Or even possibly rebooting machine.

Also probably not the problem but make sure you have free disk space on the computer and that WD has Admin perms...

Have already tried shutting down program and restarting. Also tried rebooting machine.

Found new version (build 9) this morning so downloaded, installed and tried again. Still not working.

64Gb free space on drive. Program is installed to folder outside "windows programs" area and runs in admin mode.

Have had no problem from August (once teething troubles sorted) until today.

Hope this helps track down the problem.
Many thanks for your help.

Hi Brian

The program event log is empty.

The files are out of date in my local webfiles folder, last update was at 23:00 31st Jan.
The ftp is being carried out religiously to the server (confirmed by the timestamp on the server files), but what is being transferred is the same old file each time. WD appears not to be creating/updating any webfiles, but is still uploading the out-of-date file.

Hope this helps.

Best regards,
Tony

not sure a change in month would make the files stop updating
maybe try deleting those files in the webfiles folder

Hi Brian

I deleted the offending old files from the webfiles folder, restarted WD and allowed it to run over the 21:00 "update". No replacement files were created. The program event log is still blank. The ftp log shows it attempted to process but found no files present so reported 0b transferred (it is normally about 41kb), but no other "error" message.

If I go to the Advanced Internet Settings page and select "Create file now", it does so. I'll do a file-create for all the files, and see what happens at 22:00.

Cheers,
Tony

Override is set on - green
Mainswitch is set on - green
Update times are set at 1 hr intervals for all files concerned - left light is green
Upload times are set at 1 hr intervals (2 min offset) for all files concerned - right light is green
Baro reading on WD screen is 1039.7 rising slowly. This agrees with the wx station, and with the WDL display on the site (the clientraw files have never stopped working)

Didn't kickstart it; no new files created :(

Well, it gets weirderer and weirderer!

To belatedly answer your question, Brian - its a La Crosse WS2357.
WD has been locally onloading and displaying the data without hitch throughout.

After my update at 22:10 yesterday, I again did a manual refresh and left it (sorry, missed your reply until this morning).
During the remainder of the night, the wx files behaved impeccably, so it looks like something kicked back in. I have been monitoring during the day and no further problems.

The only things not running correctly now are localweather.gif and weatherbanner.gif which refuse to show the weather icon, although they generate each hour and upload each hour - the icon area is blank.

Thanks very much for your help.
Although we didn't get to the bottom of it, it has gone away.

I know some are getting very high barometer readings
(just discoverd the wmr100 does not read correctly over 1050 hpa, and was sending a wrong value which WD rejected)
so I wonder if it was a problem with the barometer reading being out of range from the 2310 and then WD not liking it and so not updating some things
