WMR-100 & Rain Measurement
« on: February 01, 2012, 02:37:38 AM »
I gave a friend of mine my old WMR-100 station and it's having problems recording rain.  Me poor memory is telling me that the WMR100 only sends rain tips if/when wind readings are present.  Or is there some other reason why it would take a long time for the tips to register on the console?  I checked everything was working before I left but he complained that rain was not showing on the console.  I suspect he doesn't have the console set to show daily rain total...he's having trouble learning how to read and operate the console ;)

You are probably right about the console readout because my 100 reads immediately. I use VWS and it records there immediately as well. The rain gauge is probably the most reliable instrument in the OS set. One thing to consider, it reads in .04" "tips" and it takes more rain than you might imagine to get to .04". I've put the 8" funnel mod on mine so it now tips at .01". This is our dry season, but we had two small showers in Jan, one was .01" and the second .02" and without the mod neither would have registered.

I know...I have to rely on what he tells me of course.  I tried to explain to him that .04" of rain is a lot of rain.  Now keep in mind his previous rain gauge appeared to be one of them plastic things you stick in the lawn to measure water from the sprinkler  #-o

I should have just dropped off the equipment and said "Read the manual"...I doubt he has read the manual...yet...

In defense of your friend, reading the manual will tell him in incredible detail how to put the poles and connectors etc. together, but hardly mentions the actual equipment and how it works and what to expect. Example: in the 200 manual they totally forget to mention there is a batt pack in the solar panel assembly - or that it's unplugged from the factory? However, the manual should get him to the rain display section.
