Web Page Creation
« on: January 01, 2012, 12:27:52 PM »
I have been attempting to set up a Web page to display the readings from my weather station. I am using WD 10.37R b03. I am trying to do this via the web page creation within WD. The web page appears to be built as html and also appears to update on the period set, but it doesn't update on the server. I copied the html file to another pc and using a web site design software I have uploaded this to the server and can view this. However, it's a static file and will not update using this approach, but it has confirmed that I have the right settings to upload the site. I still cannot seem to get the WD software to upload the site. I'm not sure what to try next any suggestions welcomed.

Callant,

Have you made sure that the Main Internet Switch is ON, Control Panel - FTP & Connections, Connections, and you have file create and upload times set in Control Panel - FTP & Connections - Web Page Times

As far as I can see the Internet is on and set up to update every 10 minutes. I get this from the FTP log.
*******list of files uploaded********

*******actual messages from upload session********
***Start Time/date***:14:25:11 01/01/2012
Permanent connection selected
Permanent connection, will do ftp now
Finshed email agenda
Finshed email agenda, and more Internet agenda items to do (FTP)....
***Time/date***:14:25:12 01/01/2012
Logging onto FTP server....ftp.webspace.virginmedia.com:21
11004: [11004] Valid name, no data record (check DNS setup)
Connecting to FTP server.
102: The RemoteHost address is invalid (0.0.0.0).
Changing Directory to /htdocs/
Doing abort procedure/program close...

I'm sure I'm doing something silly, but so far I cannot find out what it is.

Did you enter that :21 at the end of the host name in the WD setup? If so remove it because the correct address for your server is

ftp.webspace.virginmedia.com

What is the address? Sorry if I missed that in your posts. Try adding IfieldWeather.html at the end of the URL.

I added that to the address for the browser  and got the 404 error page not found. All the indications are that WD is uploading the page, but I cannot seem to find it via the browser.

Here you go http://www.bordercallant.webspace.virginmedia.com/IfieldWeather.html  you used mixed case in the filename, and URL's are case dependent.

Niko, thanks for that, I never knew that URL's were case sensitive. Learn something new every day. I have been messing about for almost a year now trying to resolve this. My reason was to see the weather at home as I travel a lot. I could only work on this when I was at home, hence the year.

Hi,
I have a similar question. My website, www.kenbaker.org, used to have WD running on it back in the states. I moved to the UK, brought down the US site, and want to bring up a UK version. Trouble is, I remember how hard it was to get my last site loading right, and blew it away before relearning for the new site.

When I use the WD ftp, it does load files up to the site. I also use another ftp app to check that. Questions is, what file does the site want to load as the weather page? Is it index.HTML(l)? If so, what directory, or subdirectories do the bulk of the files upload to? Just the root of ./? Or do I create something different?
My control panel "weather station filename" is just "index", no quotes.
And yes, the files index.htm, index.html, and index.gif are in the root directory.

any idea what I'm doing wrong, because when I try to go there, I get a 404 error.

any help appreciated!

It may be possible that the root directory for your site / is not the correct directory for web files, it may be /www or /public or /html it all depends on the host.

Check with your host and find out where your "web files" should be placed.
