Android App (WeatherView) for Current Weather and WXSIM Forecast

I have purchased the WeatherView Elite version for my HTC Wildfire, but as yet I have just got a blank screen [normal screen with no data], even the station name is coming up as [-]. I suspect that the problem may be data in the WeatherViewTags.xml file.

Thanks for buying the app.

Looking at your site config, I can see you have the correct xml file in the root of your site and also the php file is picking up your forecast correctly.

There is a setting in the php file where you set the location of the xml file. It looks as though I've forgotten to change it from when I've been testing on my site.

Just edit WeatherView.php

Line 6

$wdTags = "./datafiles/WeatherViewTags.xml";

change to

$wdTags = "/WeatherViewTags.xml";

if that does not work add a dot at the beginning:

$wdTags = "./WeatherViewTags.xml";

I'm at work now so have limited resources, but if you have any problems, let me know.

Any ideas why the app isn't updating my data at the moment?

I have made the line6 in php file change, but still stuck on 08/05/2012 data

Re your difficulty - I would look at your web site re-direct (stuartturrell.dyndns.org) as I can't browse to your site. That's probably why the App can't get its data

The first thing always to check is whether you can use your browser to get to the WeatherView.php page.

i.e http://stuartturrell.dyndns.org/weather/WeatherView.php

If you can't, then the app can't too.

If you get stuck pm me and I'll assist if I can.

ah, thats my damn orange brightbox router to blame there.

I cant access my site using the normal address on my network (the brightbox is crap and doesn't support loopback), so i have to access my site using the internal IP addresses, so that failed to tell me that the dyndns system was updating, damn brightbox.

Cant believe such a modern router fails to have a simple feature that surely is needed more and more often!

Because of the box, i cant use the app on my wifi network. I will have to get it replaced.

I know exactly what you mean, I had a netgear router with the same problem but a software upgrade sorted it. Perhaps you may be lucky by checking your router firmware.

I have ALMOST set it up now. You can check it out (Konnerud Weather Station). So far I see one problem. I don't see any icon for the forecast "Partly Cloudy". The icon name in the XML-file say "npcl".

Any idea why this happens?

Sorry for not replying sooner. I'm out of the country at the moment, on holiday in sunny Corfu so I have very limited email facility using my phone.
I'll pm you with an email where you can contact me if you're still having problems. Re the icon issue, I won't be able to check this out until I get home in 2 weeks - sorry. In the meantime you can post any questions here. I can check once or twice a day, but someone who has set it up before May be able to help more quickly than me.

I tried to download it to the new Google Nexus 7 tablet, but Google Play says the device is not compatible. Tablet is using the new Android Jelly Bean 4.1. Any ideas ?

Hi

Your tab is cutting edge Andriod and I've not released an new version for some time. The last update was for IceCreamSandwich so please bear with me.

I'm 90% through the next update which will enhance display for 7" Tabs and include custom themes.  I'll make sure it works on the latest Tab too if there is a need.

One possible major update would be to introduce a version to cope with live weather only. I.E. No forecast available, only current conditions.

I'm thinking releasing this as part of the free version which will open the app to any PWS weather station (but with no forecast facility, also will have ads included) .

It would be a huge undertaking and I'd like to know whether this feature would be wanted or not??

Either way, any Elite user would get the app enhanced to display on their device no matter what their version.

Keep checking Android marketplace for the next update.
