Beginners a question...
« on: November 24, 2011, 09:07:24 PM »
I have spent some evenings already to read through the posts on this forum.
I have just bought a Mac (Lion), coming from Windows so struggling to understand everything.
I have a TFA Primus aka WS2800, and although i have found on this forum that it will not work with WD, on other sources I learned that it will choosing WS2300 as device.
It works with a usb stick receiver plugged into my mac, communicating with the station.
Altough I have many questions, there are two basic issues I need to solve first:

1
I cannot see the usb port when i run the setup. I have downloaded the OUART driver from Apple, but still cannot see it. The hardware info of Apple clearly recognizes a Wheather Info device under the USB listings.

2
I have downloaded the latest WD version for mac from november 7th 10.37L build 93, installed it, but when i look at "About" it says "Version 6.65 May 2002" !!!
What am I doing wrong?

All help much appreciated!

the 2800 station type uses a USB 'Dongle' that is the wireless receiver from the weather station
the driver and software for that (heavy weather) only works on windows
WD for windows uses the data file updated by that software (currdat.lst) to update its data

re your second question:
the .zip Mac update is normaly opened auto...running the downloaded and auto openeded WeatherD icon from where it is downloaded to should make it you are then running the latest version
I just tested that on my mac and that works OK

Thank you for your answer.
Pitty the supplier of the ws2800 told me it would run on your mac software.
Maybe I can run it on another windows pc and save the data files on my NAS and have WD pick up the data from there.

Regarding the version, I did he same, but why does the "about" button say version 6.65, may 2005? Should i just disregard that and assume I am on the latest version?

(does for me..just tested)

you could maybe look into running windows emulation?

Emulation, you mean like in Parallels or Bootcamp? If so, yes, I have been looking at that, I read in some forum that Heavy Weather pro does not run in Parallels or that the usb port (dongle) cannot be addressed.
Anyone running the WD windows version in Paralelles?

I included a screenshot showing the version.

Thanks again

that means its an old version
(the version should also show in the start up sequence)
try downloading direct from
http://www.weather-display.com/downloadfiles/WeatherDmac.zip
the problem could be a symbolic link to another WeatherD on your mac...i.e search for that maybe

I have deleted everything I could find, downloaded it again from the link in your message, and again version 6.65 of 2002. Its a new iMac, never had another version installed.
So weird!

when you download the .zip file
your mac will then auto open that .zip file
and put the WeatherD file in a folder
double clicking on that file should be the latest version
(does for me here in testing)

is there any longer term WD Mac users who are not able to upgrade to the latest .zip update?

note that search might not find the actual exectuable WeatherD file, as its contained in the application bundle (you open the application bundle via right mouse click)

Windy,

I can confirm the same problem, new mac here too and cannot get a new copy of WD. I tried the zip file too with no luck. Also can't get this version to find my prolific usb/serial cable. WD is currently running on VB with no issues but I would eventually like to get it off VB. I do have two cables so switching from VB to the Mac should not be an issue.

its strange
because I can download the mac .zip download and get the correct version when I double click on the WeatherD application bundle
check the create/modified time stamp of the actual WeatherD file in the application bundle (in the contents/MacOS/ folder)
I do know someone else who updated to the latest .zip update with no problems

That is odd Jack, I wonder what it could be.
