AAG Barometer
« on: November 07, 2011, 01:31:00 PM »
I have tried connecting up a AAG barometer to WD. It works for a few minutes and then drops the whole computer which goes in to reboot. 1-wire reader and other progs can read the barometer, as can WD but only for a short time.
I suspect that it may be the drain on the computer is too much and causes the voltage top drop and thus trigger a reboot. it is a very old computer and due for regrade. has anyone else experienced the problem?

Thanks

Best wishes

Mike

PS even happens when nothing else is connected to WD

Do you have the baro connected through a power injector or hub?
As one of these is required to provide the power for the baro & rain gauge on the 1-Wire system.
From the Hobby Boards website:

This device comes with dual RJ45 connectors, as well as screw terminals, for easy connection to your 1-wire network, and requires power of 15-24 volts DC. Either our Power Injector or our 6 Channel Hub would provide the needed power.

note that if it is an AAG barometer sensor
then the hobbyboard reference does not apply

It is an AAg barometer connected by one lead direct to the adapter plugged in to the tower system. I have not run it via a hub.

strange you have this problem as I have not heard of this problem before
but it does sound like your PC is not able to supply the power drain needed
a booster like the 1 wire link adaptor might help

New computer already in the post to me. I will update the forum as to the outcome once it is set up and running. I am reasonably certain that the computer is well..., not quite up to the job.

Best wishes

New computer arrived and 1-wire now running without dropping everything else. Just trying to solve the problem of the WD 1-wire prog reading device. It recognises the barometer ID's, but will not display a value, and is continuously searching for a switch. The AAG barometer reading program indicates no roms found. Mmmm! Suddenly manual instrumentation seems very appealing!!

been away on a board chair training weekend (3 day trip) on board a sailing (Spirit of New Zealand)
just back
tired from lack of sleep due to the snorers in a small cabin....I ended up sleeping in the dinning room until someone did the same thing then started snorring so then I ended up sleeping on deck under the stars...someone else eneded up there later ...snoring...but luckly further away from me...
I slept up there after snoring woke me again for the second night (the snoring was loud from below me the bunk vibrated)...I also was on night watch duty for 1.5 hours during the night too...

anyway, you could try calibration the AAG baro

Sometimes these trips away really should be cancelled. What seems great on paper is a nightmare in the end. Hopefully thought you learned something along the way, if only to take some snoring remedies with you.

Thank you for your suggestion. I think I am almost there now.

Best wishes and sleep tight

Mike

I would. In my day, training such as it was, was conducted in a dusty and grubby room with uncomfortable chairs and no heating. Glad I am retired now.

Best wishes

A barograph on a ship? (top left of picture) Working or just for display? If working I would expect the results to be not very acurate as the ship moves up/down/sideways.

Having sailed small yachts (12 foot) when I was younger I should know the correct nautical terms (pitch/yaw?). A sign of old age I guess  :)
