WXSIM PC requirements?
« on: October 18, 2011, 04:36:52 PM »
Hi Guys,

I'm hopeing to use WXSIM and jsut wanted to know how PC hungry it is?

I currently use a little ACER REVO R3700 as my weather server as it has such low power consumption. It has a dual core 1.8Ghz, and 4GB RAM. It currently runs several pieces of weather software and VVp without pronlems.

I have been using WxSim with WD and VVP on an Atom powered netbook for some months....No problems, although I did stop making movies at the same time as I moved onto the netbook from a dual core PC.

Re later responses from others...the Atom Processor in my Netbook is an early one...ie  N270 running at 1.6Ghz with 2Gb of RAM

When WXSIM runs its forecasts in auto-mode it will use one entire core, but for viewing graphs via WRET hardly anything at all.

If this Revo 3700 is the model that has an Atom D525 then that's a very capable processor, as good or better than the best Pentium 4's. With two cores and four threads movies should be OK.

I am using an Acer SA80, rather elderly. 2800Mhz processor with 2Gb RAM. It runs Weatherdisplay only. When I run WxSim, it bombs the computer and I have to reboot it to recover. Not the fault of WxSim which is excellent, just an old computer.
Hopefully that might give you an idea where not to go with your computer. get the program though it is excellent.

Best wishes

Mike

My experience is that the more "horsepower" that you have, the faster WxSim will run and complete it's tasks.  It will grab all the resources that it can but doesn't interfere with the other programs that are running.  Probably the best thing to do is grab a copy of the trial version and try it out.  I think you'll ok.

I',m running ,WD, VVP, WXSIM on an Atom Netbook (cpu n280) as well. I just added an IP cam also (a couple days ago). Everything runs ok. WXsim can slow things down when it does a forecast, but I only do 3 automated per day, so not an issue for me.
