I've been having the same issue with the Unity interface, and that didn't fix the problem.

The only solution I've come up with is using a different window system like KDE (Kubuntu) or XFCE (Xubuntu). Not an elegant solution, but it works...

I could make it where you could access the control panel and view panel via pop up menu (from right mouse click on the graph)

I am trying to move WD from my windows server to a new Ubuntu box.  I have managed to get WD installed and running. All menus are visable that should be.

Prior to making the final jump I have been trying to connect both WD versions via the TCP broadcast.  I can see the broadcast on a stationless copy on a win7 laptop, but I cannot get stationless mode to work on the ubuntu machine.

The bar above the menus shows I have a 'registered' stationless setup.  I have confirmed (many times) that the main tcp/ip switch is on and that the TCp/IP client is selected. (same as on the win7 laptop).  The data quality 'led' is green, but the connection 'led' remains red, despite the data counter counting up as it would if data were being collected.

Does this stationless mode usually work in the Linux version the same way as it does in Windows or do I have to do something special?

are you meaning the multicast setup?
you could instead try using the clientraw file via a mapped/shared drive?

I believe so, it uses ip address 231.31.31.31 on port #333. Control panel page tab says "TCp/IP Client/Server".

Never considered client raw. I'will investigate that.

But should 'multicast' be working on Ubuntu 11.10, or even LINUX in general?

Well I have the clientraw file being created on the windows server machine.  My entire WD webfiles folder is actually on the UBUNTU box so access is no problem.

But darned if I can see how to make use of the clientraw file as input to the client UBUNTU box.

Anyone have a suggestions?

you should be able to select the clientraw.txt file as the data source in the client/server setup

I found it. Simply wasn't looking in the right part of the screen. thanks.

I am getting data now, but WD on Ubunbtu shuts down after maybe 10-15 min - not sure as I never seem to be looking at the screen when it happens.

I have ordered a serial card for the Ubuntu box so I can eliminate the Windows server altogether. At that point I will need a registration code for it.

Thanks again,
Fred

As mentioned above data is now being updated regularly via clientraw.
But the program still quits after only a few minutes.  I thought perhaps it needed a registration/license code to run properly.
Requested and received the license code (Thanks Brian) and after a few attempts, WD accepted it.
I confirmed registration by temporarily selecting a Davis WMII station - all seemed well.
Switching back to stationless WD still crashes after a few minutes.

For the record, I am running UBUNTU 11.10.  I am using the full GUI version of WD. I start WD using an Icon that launches the GoWeather.sh shell script.

Do I need to change something in Ubuntu to keep WD happy?
