It may be possible now - WDL uses the swf object in the sample html page, so it should be possible to configure the html page to display alternative content.

Julian

I was assuming that this is something that you would need to 'bake in', using the 'SWF object generator' (?)
Or is there a way that I/we can configure it?

Thanks,

Hey Kevin
Would it be possible to have a copy of your mobile version script to play with?
Flemming

Not really possible.  That is from my weather site which is based on a Boltwire Wiki which has been customized heavily.  The weather plugins are custom and are pretty useless without that platform to work from.    It has dual styles which allow for a full page site and a mobile site in the same package.

Some of the pieces have been released, but the project as a whole has been canceled.

I had planned on releasing it as a full blown "system" where the user had both a weather website and a whole website template to work with for integrating a full complete web package, first for Cumulus and then for WD, but and it is fairly close, but I simply don't have the time to devote to that project especially when you start thinking about providing support for it.

All you need is Time, Aptitude and Desire ... and you can build just about anything...

That's okay Kevin. It was just a thought. As I think most of the weatherwidgets for smartphones is a little dull.

Since adobe is pulling out of the mobile market and probably is turning it's attention to html5 more fully it maybe an idea to start considering a move or risk having weather display live left behind.

If anyone is interested, using Steel Guages you can make a really nice ipad page with dials etc

http://www.casa.ucl.ac.uk/cumulus/ipad.html

Its a mix of cumulus and WD at the moment as i couldnt quite work out the custom tags but i could be either.

Also works on the iPhone/Android  - I was a massive fan if WDL but afraid i dont use it any more due to its reliance on flash..

Translation... until I got my iPhone/iPad, I used it a lot because everything I had supported flash.

WDL doesn't rely on flash, it IS a flash application.

hmm bit of a harsh comment back,  point taken.

My mac and pc both of course run flash but i tend to use the steel gauges as its universal.

Thanks,

I got round to actually looking at this and it's pretty obvious: You can put alternate content - beyond just the 'install flash' message in the 'flashcontent' div. This is then shown if swfobject.js doesn't detect flash on the user's browser.

I've set my own site up to load the Carterlake/Saratoga Weather AJAX dashboard where Flash is not installed. This works fine on the iDevices I've tested it on, effectively transparently loading either WDL or the AJAX dashboard as necessary.

Andy,

Those Steel Gauges of yours look fab on my iPad! I too am using an iPad more & more & would like to get an iPad friendly "Weather Display Live" on my site.

Can you point me in the right direction as to how I can set this up using Weather Display rather than Cumulus? I need simple instructions as I'm a simpleton!

I already use IWDL so assume I'm halfway there? Any help would be much appreciated.

Simon
