iPhone weather app - Under the Weather
« on: May 05, 2011, 03:51:10 AM »
Hi all,

I have almost completed an iPhone weather app for personal weather stations. Please view;

www.undertheweather.co.nz for more info and screenshots of the upcoming release.

You may also submit your weather station to be included in the app absolutely free! At present I am all
set up for Cumulus weather stations however I am adding in other software as I get to it - please submit whatever you have.

Thanks,

Ben

It would be good if you could add support for the WD clientraw.txt file
(there is a description of that file data format in the clientrawdescription.txt included in the WD software)
since this is a WD support forum

Thanks Brian, just downloading your software now - will add support as you suggested. The aim is to support all software.

Hi

What a great idea - I have submitted my site - but was not able to set the location of my clientraw.txt file.

If you are interested, I can help you translate into Danish.

Best regards,

Henrik

Good questions...

Also are you caching the data or is the app going to hit these guys' websites directly?

Good questions from the 2 above posts - We intend to sell the app for approx. $2.59 NZD or whatever the equivalent in local currency.

This should cover some of the development costs and ongoing releases but I suspect won't get anywhere near break even!!

The app is aimed to bring together weather stations from around the world and share as a 'community' - should you wish to be part of this community please submit your app - if not, please don't.

The app is not making calls on your own website / server - I am saving data at my end into a database everytime you process the php file and when someone views the app it is making a call on my server.

Hope this clears up a few things.

Thanks, Ben

Also to answer the question of do you receive a free copy of app if you submit your station - I'm trying to however Apple rules
only allow a maximum of 50 promo codes per app so that won't work.

So at this stage I can't promise anything however I will see if there is a workaround for this Apple rule.

Thanks, Ben

Ben,

The work-around is that the 50 promo codes is per version release, so every version you release can have 50 promo codes  ... from an Apple developer forum is the following:

Quote
Also, developers can reset their 50 code limit by releasing an update to their application.

Cheers

Yes thanks for that - I had discovered that last night - I will work out a system whereby - the first 30-35 or so for each release get a free copy
of the app. I need a few for promo / marketing. Rest should be fine.

I'll post figures on the website - www.undertheweather.co.nz

Thanks, Ben
