BL-140A Power
« on: March 05, 2011, 11:50:12 PM »
Hi,

I have a remote set up that is minus a camera right now.  I hope to get up there (CO mountains) late April for some spring cleaning and install a new camera.  I want to use Panasonic 140A that seems to be the favorite but I don't remember if the IP switch that I have installed there is power over the LAN capable.  Can anyone tell me if the 140 is capable of being powered independently of the LAN, like with it's own power supply.  It's been six months since I've been up there and just can't remember what model # the switch is. #-o

thanks,
Jim

It is not standard power over lan, it just uses a spare pair for the power. There is a power supply (wall wart) and a small power "injector" box, cat 5 in the one side, cat 5 out the opposite side to the cam, and a power jack in a third side. I currently have over 100' of cat 5 between the power injector and the camera, works fine.
