Waiting for Charley in North Carolina

This one is looking very nasty. We have already had 4 inches of rain since yesterday, many tornadoe warnings, 3 people killed by tornadoes and that was with Charley hundreds of miles away. My yard is flooded, the tall trees will easily uproot when the center of Charley approaches within 50 miles of us later today.

NHC Advisory... Data from a reconnaissance aircraft indicate that Charley is still a hurricane after moving across Florida. Maximum sustained winds remain near 85 mph...with higher gusts. Some strengthening is possible today as the center moves over warm water.

Rainfall totals of 3 to 6 inches are likely along the path of
Charley across portions of the eastern United States. These rains
could cause life-threatening flash floods.

Tornadoes are possible over portions of coastal
Georgia…south and North Carolina.

Local Weather Office says:

The official track takes Charley not too far off an I-95
track through North Carolina… although expansive rainfall shearing
well out ahead of it due to the persistent upper jet right entrance region…
along with additional convergence along the existing surface
boundary over the central Piedmont… should bring a solid 3-6
inches to much of the County Warning Area

Wind forecasts will reflect the latest NHC guidance… which brings
sustained 35-45 knots over the area currently covered by the inland
tropical storm wind watch. See no reason to change areal/temporal
extent & will upgrade this watch to a warning. Gusts may exceed
50-60 knots. With the history of tornadoes in Florida coupled with
enhanced convection on Charley’s east side… expect a significant
threat of tornadoes and small northward-traveling bows today.

Looks like we will get some rain and wind in Maryland but nothing serious.

Good luck Ian !
