How to modify wdisplay.ini
« on: August 26, 2010, 11:29:29 PM »
General Question.

I did a reset of all records, and seen somewhere here on the forums on what area's to copy, But can't find the forum message it was in. So when editing the ini what am i look for for the records part in there. So at least i can get the all time and stuff back in there from last month.

Thanks.

Idealy I should have had them all in 1 section, but the code has been kept backward compiltable for new versions

Still tinkering with the ini didn't make any changes, as there are to many area's in there. As i am hoping to restore the records from 2006. Did try once the convert. good thing i had the noaa reports and other stuff in a backup dir as the logfiles are way out of wack. reason is unknown. the backup dir has alot in there looked at the dates the backups went, and well they where out of wack also pertaining to like July 2010 backed up on the 14 for some odd reason, so can't use those data files. now the ini file i backed up before i starting to tinker with the records, and had to do a reset on all. as the dates or event's where messed up.

Has anyone came up with a easy way to get the records back?
at least aug 2010 is correct but did the reset records on the 26th of august.

Is there a way to get data from noaa reports or any other files that would be on the server?

Just trying to get my records back in place and like before in the ini it is all spread out everywhere so i don't want to touch that area as i don't get it.

thanks.

I thought there was a file that WD creates/updates called something like recordset.txt.  IIRC it contains all the records set by your station.

Found that file. but seems that with the lacross system i had, it left all the dates from 3/2006 till 5/28/07 when i put the VP2+ in:
Is there a way to parse the data from that file to pull info from it?
as in a pl type of script to pull the top 3 of each area that would pertain to the records, this way can punch them back in.

Not that I know of...would be great tool to have if there was...

I've tried to follow your problem but have to admit I'm not sure what you did or what happened.  I thought you had daily backups turned on??  Why can't those be used to restore your records?

I have all the backup's that it did, but for some odd reason i seen the dates on the backup's and looked into them, and some are dated in the middle of the month between the 13 and the 20th. Not all of them, but back to say like 22010lg.txt the 2/2010 is dated 2/20/2010 not the end of the month there are hit and miss one likes that from 2/20/2010 to 7/14/2010 could be those files didn't create until i fired up the computer on those dates. Looking back at before that they look fine back to 3/31/2006 from 12/22/2009 when i took the system down, and ran it off and on not all the time. so for 2010 nothing for January and part months from there till 8/1/2010.

So not sure how to recreate the months that never finished, As it did pull all the data from the VP2+ so has to be in the dir's somewhere for the missing parts.

So i got lost a good while back.

Are the log files ok?  I'm seem to recall that if the data or log files are intact and correct then WD has the capability to cull them and reset the records.  Check the FAQ section and if it isn't addressed there then I would send Brian an email and see what the correct procedures are for recreating the records.

IIRC, the wdisplay.ini file contains the all-time, yearly and monthly records.  Unless you changed the settings for the WD backup routine each backup should contain the ini file.  You should be able to find one that contains correct data in it, at least up to the time where you got lost.
