3.6 Earthquake Last Night
« on: July 16, 2010, 01:58:49 PM »
Now, I realize that this isn't weather :)

Last night, I was awaken by the sound of a very low flying aircraft.  Wait, no, the house is shaking.  What is that deep noise? 8O 8O

Now, one of my bucket list items has a check mark.  Now I just need to see a tornado, experience a hurricane!

That's pretty sig. That fault line goes all the way to N ME and into New Brunswick.

Were you in MD late 80s for that hurricane?

Setting up an earthquake page last winter certainly helps draw traffic to my site when earthquakes are in the news in Oklahoma.  The earthquake page here:  http://stillwaterweather.com/okareaearthquakes.php   But less so in recent months since hardly as much 2 weeks go by before another earthquakes hits in central Oklahoma, but thankfully, they have always stayed under 4.0

I read somewhere that the in frequent <4 quakes in the midwest are actually aftershocks from a much larger quake that occured some time in the past (1000's of years ago even)

Do you participate in the Quake Catcher Network?  If so, did you record it?

Maybe from the New Madrid fault?

I do remember them saying that in OK we have the Meers Fault line, but many of our earthquakes aren't felt simply because they never get to the surface.

We have had about 1000 quakes in the 3+ range in the last 6 weeks or so with the biggest at 7.1. A total of over 2000 shakes since that big one. Not much fun. 8O

Rather strange but most of us don't even notice any quake under a 4.0 now!

Cheers

To compound it all, they are all 15km or less, and within 30km of the city and there have been after shocks over 5R and every day 3.6 - 4.0+ since the 4th September.  People are "shell-shocked". No loss of life but 3 seriously injured or with major surgery.
