Start of seasons off by one minute
« on: March 20, 2010, 01:13:17 PM »
Good day!

Today being the first day of spring in the U.S., I noticed that the time for the equinox to start is off by one minute.  Not a big deal but curious if there is anyway to adjust / fix that?

See here: http://www.thorntonweather.com/wx7.php

Versus: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Equinox

Thanks!

I would think within 1 minute is not going to be a problem?

No, not really a problem, Brian.  I just happened to notice in reading news stories they were saying it started at 32 minutes past the hour and WD had something different.  Just me being a picky.  :)

Has nothing to do with the poor quality of our media - just happened to be where I noticed it.

I could be wrong(I usualy am) but the moment of the first day of spring depends on your lat; and long. each time zone has a 15 min. spread. So it would depend on where you are in your time zone,
Chuck

The equinox as calculated and displayed by WD is the date and time when the sun crosses over the Earth's equator, so that is a single instant in time in March, and again in September, calculated in UTC and translated to your local time.

It's a very complex calculation, +/- 1 minute isn't bad...

WD uses a component to provide the info
so not alot I can do that about it being 1 minute out (which in the scheme of things is not bad)
