Urgent problems with WD
« on: March 04, 2010, 06:19:39 PM »
Hi all,

Needing ideas now as i'm totally out of them now....Atm are my sites updates down what they have been for some days now...Last night i *tought* i finally got WD to work, but nope, resulted up with hours of flatline before i noted it.

My WD don't want to play anymore, thats it.
Atm running on a fresh win7 64-bit but tested with a fresh xp too with same results.
Serial logger in use.

The setup is VVP + com0com-driver set to push data to ports 6/16,7/17 and 8/18.
WeatherLink on port 7 and Cumulus on port 8 works both just fine.
With a fresh install of a 2WD set to port 6 starts fine but after few minutes it stops and don't want to get any data anymore. Reboot of the box don't bring any help, same thing there.

That box in WD's viewtab what shows rawdata says com-port connected ok. Also in VVP in "Last Heard"-box resets the counters but in "Last sent"-box not.

Specs of the box:
Dual-Core CPU E5300 @ 2.60GHz
2 Gb RAM

All ideas more than welcome

Henkka

you dont say which version (and build ) of WD?
what is the barometer reading on the console?

try unticking, update the barometer every minute, in the weather station type setup, davis setup, if you have a recent console firmware update

I am away today, helping the school collect seeds from local native trees that they grow into trees ("trees for survival")

and the other day I was cooking sausages at a school swimming sports day

Hi,

Aah, forgot that. 10.37P build 22 (dowloaded fullinstall today).

Barometer is 1009.2 on console.

try a test running WD direct with the console

also, is this a usb data logger or?
(i.e make sure the usb is not powering down)

I have been running a test here succesfully for the last 36 hours, VP

Hi Brian,

Its serial. Will do a test with direct with the console, but i don't see why there should be the problem as WL and Cumulus (what i installed as test) has both worked without problems with getting data from VVP. I see its between VVP and WD whats the problems is, question is just what.

Yes, WD connected direct to console works fine (COM1). Question is why doesn't it want to work trought VVP?

EDIT: soon as i switched back to use VVP WD stopped after 160 packets or so...I really should want to use vvp and wd...

if it works OK in direct mode, then that points to something about the way you have it in use with VVP
how are you connecting it through that?

Hi Brian,

Its connected as like the other softwares with "Virtual Console" COM ports and COM16 for wd (the others in use are com17 and com18) and with the com0com-driver.
For some reason the com-ports what are selected, wd = port 6, weatherlink = port 7 and cumulus = port 8, whats are actually the pairs for 16,17 and 18 in the comport-setup, so thats maybe just how it works.
There are no differences in the settings between the different programmes.

As a test to confirm that port 6 what wd is set to works ok, i switched cumulus to use it and it works fine.

 :?

Just as note, cumulus is not a solution for me as wd has so many more ex. tags what i use on my site, for example those days<0C-tags and others cool statistic-tags what wd produce ;)

Maybe success now, finally  :)
Got a tought to test get the data "the IP-way" and set-up VVP to feed to ip:xxxx and wd to the same and having now 600 packets comed in and counting  :)

For reference, the VP IP-tab in comport-setup.

Henkka

EDIT Too early hurray, stopped after 700 packets. As note, this was on a fresh 2nd wd-install without any old datafiles or similar.

this station uses the TCP/IP
http://hamgap.atnz.net/waiuku.htm
direct from a IP data logger, not going through VVP
works good (been running for 5 days)

there is something about your VVP that is causing a problem with WD (i.e not sending any more data (i.e does the data received stop?) )
