What weather station do you use with your Mac?
« on: February 07, 2010, 06:28:35 PM »
I'm thinking of replacing my WMR100 with another type of station.

Does anyone run the Davis Vantage Pro2  or Pro Plus model with the data logger module?

Do you have the USB model or do you use the serial model with a KeySpan serial to USB converter?

Anyone using the new Davis Vantage Vue model?

Thinking of getting one with Solar and UV sensors and leaning towards the Davis brand to use with my Mac.

I use a Davis VP with USB data logger, and the Mac USB driver from Silican labs (downloaded from the Mac web site)
works good for me

I wanted to replace my WMR100 with the Vue.  But I want solar.  And wireless.  VP2+ is just too big for hauling around in the RV.  So I am sticking with the OS system until it dies I guess...

Isn't the Vue wireless? I thought I read that the other vantage pro sensors will work with the Vue.

I'm leaning towards the vantage pro 2 with solar and UV sensors although I like the Vue price a lot better.

So I could order the USB data logger and it will work with the Mac if I'm using the right USB drivers from the Mac thread?

Yes the Vue is wireless...but no solar.  If not for that I would have one already...

I'm using WeatherSnoop for USB connection between my Mac and WMR100.  I don't know if WeatherSnoop works with the Vue or not.

Thanks for the replies, I think I'll take the plunge next month after we get back from our vacation.

I'll wave a not too fond goodbye to the WMR100 and hope to have better luck with the Davis.

Thanks for the info. I have read in various threads the serial one is the way to go. I want it to be trouble free if possible and don't want to have a repeat of the various issue I've had with the WMR100.

I noticed they sell WeatherLink in a Mac version now.  Not that we need the software but I would guess the datalogger is USB and not serial with that version...

The WMR968 was my first station, it lasted about 1 year and a few months and died, so I got the WMR 100.

I should of got a Davis right from the first, as it is now I've already spent close to what a Davis costs.

Besides the frustration with the WMR100 is just not worth any savings to me. Oh well hindsight is terriffic.  #-o

I would agree.  The OS station is not well built.  I used to own a Davis VP2+ and it is very rugged and well built.  I went with the WMR100 as I wanted wireless and small foot print so I could easily transport in the RV.  If the Vue had been available at the time I would have bought one without thinking.  Now I have 2 WMR100 stations and will continue to use it until they die.  In the mean time I will be saving up for another Davis.  I just hope they decide to add solar to the Vue in the future.
