I had a similar post here:
http://www.weather-watch.com/smf/index.php/topic,44376.0.html

It's obviously a bug, so I post it here in the Bug forum.

I have always used wdstartdelay witg 1 minute delay. It has been working fine until I updated to 10.37Pb19. Now I'm at b20, and it still does not work.

The facts are:
- WD Setup->Launch when windows start=No
- wdstartdelay: Start with windows is checked
- wdstartdelay: delay is set to 60
- WD starts immediately after Windoes start even if Launch when windows start=No
- If I open wdstartdelay and just close it again, and then restart the PC, wdstartdelay starts as always after windows start and then WD starts after 1 minute. But the next time I restart the PC, WD starts immediately again.

I hope that this can be corrected so that it will be working as it always have.

there has been no change to the wdstartdelay.exe program in a long time

so there is no bug with that

there is more likely a problem on your PC with the start up programs

download this program

http://www.weather-display.com/downloadfiles/startupman.zip

you might have to run it 2x to get it to show the start up programs on your pc

Brian, I'm not quite sure about that...... Please take a look at the following:

- I ran your enclosed program and sa that c:\wdisplay\Weatherd.exe was set to startup.
- Then I double-clicked wdstartdelay.exe and saw that it was checked to start with windows.
- I exited wdstartdelay.exe without doing anything.
- Now your program show that c:\wdisplay\wdstartdelay.exe is started with windows, and NOT  c:\wdisplay\Weatherd.exe
- I started WD, and now your program show that c:\wdisplay\Weatherd.exe  is started with windows, and NOT  c:\wdisplay\wdstartdelay.exe

Launch when Windows start is set to NO all the time

I belive you when you say that you have not changed wdstartdelay, but to me it looks that WD is changing the startup. You said that you have re-enabled an option in WD to start with Windows, are you sure that you have not done anything there to cause this problem?

click on yes to start when windows starts,  then click on no to start when windows starts,  to actually set it to off in the windows registry

That didn't help. What I did:

- I set the setting to Yes
- Exited WD and rebooted PC
-Set the setting to No
- Exited WD
- Opened wdstartdelay and confirmed that the settings were OK
- Closed wdstartdelay and rebooted PC
- wdstartdelay started with Windows and WD started 1 minute later. Confirmed that the setting still was No
- Exited WD and rebooted PC
- WD started immediately with Windown.........

Can you tell me where the registry setting is so that I can check what it say?

\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run\

maybe you have a problem with WD not being able to update the registry permanently
if using Vista or W7,then make sure you set WD to run as administrator

Brian, I'm using XP, the same installation that I have used the last years without any modification. And WD is able to change the registry, see what happened:

- I checked \SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run\ It contained "Delphi 5#Autostart REG_SZ C:\wdisplay\WeatherD.exe"
- I exited WD and doubleclicked wdstartdelay, checked to start with windows and start WD 1 miute later.
- I exited wdstartdelay and the regisry entry was changed to "Delphi 5#Autostart REG_SZ C:\wdisplay\wdstartdelay.exe"
- I start WD
- The registry key now say again:  "Delphi 5#Autostart REG_SZ C:\wdisplay\WeatherD.exe". This happens no matter if Launch when Windows start is set to Yes or No

So obviously you set the registry entry to start WD each time that I open WD. Is this not happening for you? Why does it happen to me? It's clear that it's WD that writes that wrong registry key. I'm running 10.37Pb20 now.

when I tested, it was not re writing that registry entry if it was set to not start when windows starts, when restarting WD

Brian, do you have any idea why this happes for me? As I said, it started happening when I upgraded to 10.37Pb19. Where do you save the setting that WD is not to be started with windows (not the Run in the registry, just the setting for WD) so I can check that. Any other things that I can check?

I do not have any other reports of this problem occuring, and its not a problem here in testing

[Auto start]
option=

the registry setting is only set when you click on yes or no under setup in WD

try restarting WD manully without using the wdstartdelay as a test, after setting it to not start after rebooting

Brian,

- I clicked on No for Launch with Windows
- Exited WD
- Started WD manually (No was still checked)
- Exited WD
- Checked registry. It was set to run WD at Win startup
- Doubleclicked wdstartdelay and closed it
- Checked registry again, and now it was set to start wdstartdelay, not WD
- Rebooted PC, wdstartdelay started and WD after 1 minute
- Exited WD
- Checked registry, and it was once again set to start WD, not wdstartdelay. So it was changed by WD startup.
- Rebooted PC and WD started with Win, not wdstartdelay
- Checked Auto start in win.ini, it was set to No

So the problem is still that WD staring changes the registry to start WD instead of wdstartdelay

that is not happening here in testing, if its set to no, then it does not set the change in the registry when WD is started up
and there is no other reports of this problem

Have you tried re-installing an older version of WD to see it works as you want with that
version? It might be worth checking out.

if its set to no, then it does not set the change in the registry when WD is started up
It does here, as I have told. One click changes the registry, that's the click to start WD.

Brian, do you have any specific steps that I can do to get you more information?

I have thought about that. But I haven't tried it yet, afraid that it will destoy some of my data, settings etc. Maybe Brian can tell a safe way to try this?
