Dallas 1Wire Issue - RESOLVED
« on: February 04, 2010, 12:41:31 PM »
I have been having problems with my 1Wire network flat lining every day and never come back up.  I'd have to go into WD and press the save/reset button under the 1wire settings and WD would find it for another 6-12 hours then flatline.  Setting the "do this hourly" button under save/reset was no help.  Setting WD to restart every 6 hours seemed to work (sometimes) but I was concerned that eventually I would screw something up with WD restarting all the time - clearly that was not a real fix.  I have 6 1wire temp sensors running off a usb adapter along with a hobby boards lightning detector - all running in a Star Topology.

I pulled the lightning detector off the network and everything has been running perfect now for a couple days.  The lightning detector requires a 9V battery and i believe what is happening is when winter comes and it gets real cold the battery dies and creates problems.  We'll see in the spring when I replace the battery :)  Only other thing it can be is since I'm running in a star configuration without a hub (everything punched down to a 66 block) and the added distance for the lightning detector is putting me over the distance limitations for the 1wire network spec.  Since this really started when winter came in I'm thinking its the battery and not real motivated to go up into the attic to change the battery - until spring.

Figured I'd put this up on the board as it has been driving me crazy and i finally took the time to do some troubleshooting.
You can see the sensors all working at www.auburnweatherlive.com/house.php

Works great to see if your family is cranking up the heat when you are traveling :) although my wife isn't too pleased
