Webcam + Phone Line - Need some ideas
« on: December 07, 2009, 05:36:51 PM »
I was talking to someone today who wants to set up a remote webcam. The property only has a phone line, no other internet. The cam location is about 400 feet from the house. There is AC power run from the house to the cam location.

If I was doing this I would pull an old Netgear RM356 Modem Router out of the garage, get a Panasonic BL-C140 set up to FTP a snapshot at time intervals, and connect them via a pair of powerline ethernet adaptors.

However the modem router is pretty old tech and not a common item these days, does anyone have a better, more current, idea?

Hi Niko

Not sure if one of these would be of any use
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Micromark-Home-CCTV-System-MM80101-B-NEW-in-Box_W0QQitemZ400082922199QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_CCTV?hash=item5d26ccead7

I have one never used, i bought it thinking i would be able to use it as an IP camera but it has to be connected to a phone line.

They used to retail at £299, then they got moved to a clearance bargain shop over here and went down to £245.00, they still couldnt get rid of them so i got mine for £19.99, go figure...

The only down side is the shipping would be quite a bit to you as its about 1 or 2kg in weight but you could have had it FOC if its any good to you cause i will never use it :(

Thanks, I had no idea such a thing existed, off to google some more  :)

If it was for me I would seriously consider your kind offer, but it's not so I need a locally supportable (and not by me) solution
