Ive been running Curly's script and haven't had any issues. Got 2 warnings currently, and for the last 2 days or so. Sounds like its just certain areas that are having issues.

This morning all I got was the special weather statements...did Otsego have something else? (I think Otsego is the only one we have in common).  I'm pretty sure they are sending out the Special Weather Statements via the zone, and pretty much everything else is through the county.  Pretty much the only thing I am getting with the messenger script is the Special Weather Statements.  Hopefully they can fix the known issue quickly.

I think Otsego had a warning up yesterday morning Dennis. I had the special weather statements
displaying without any issues.

FWIW, looking at my wxalertlog page, last warning I had posted was July 28??  #-o

Yeah I definitely didn't get those warnings yesterday. My last warning was on August 3rd. I got looking back at my alert log and some warnings had full title others didn't, this is going to be a mess.

I am having an issue that I'm not sure the exact source of the problem.  Sometimes it does not display a new advisory if it has the same 'name' as the previous.  Example:

Special Weather Statement -> sent at 5pm, if a new one comes at 5:30 that is in addition or replaces the previous, there is no new notification.

In addition it did this with a thunderstorm warning.

Thoughts?

New thought,

The log does show what I think is the new alert ----

2010-08-16T13:16:17-04:00 There are no active watches, warnings or advisories
2010-08-19T16:06:02-04:00 Special Weather Statement
2010-08-19T16:12:02-04:00 There are no active watches, warnings or advisories
2010-08-19T16:15:08-04:00 Special Weather Statement
2010-08-19T16:54:02-04:00 There are no active watches, warnings or advisories
2010-08-19T17:15:01-04:00 Special Weather Statement
2010-08-19T17:32:44-04:00 Severe Thunderstorm Warning
2010-08-19T17:36:02-04:00 Special Weather Statement
2010-08-19T17:41:12-04:00 Severe Thunderstorm Warning

BUT the twitter does not show them.  I will try seeing if emails work

Edited:

Emails DO work properly, twitter script is not functioning reliably.  Perhaps if the previous tweet is the same as the new tweet it wont sent?

Silly question, does anyone have them showing on Twitter and/or emailing them correctly?

I have it working fine in both cases.  I get the email/text to my phone and my twitter is updating just fine too.

Hmm. Lemme find a zone with a warning and see.

I am using the new Twitter Oath way. I use GoDaddy and in my Cron Job, I just have to call the rss-weather-alerter script, right?

well I put in MSZ002 for the zone, tested the script and an alert and email was sent,
so the script is working I do believe.

I've found that when there are watches and warnings.....it all goes to hell.

NWS has something very messed up.

Well said Michael!!!

I guess this will never change with the NWS; has always been a problem and appears it continues!

I have had active advisories up all day long. The alerter script continuously shows No Active Advisories.

http://www.cnyweather.com/rss-weather-alerter.php

I changed my alert zone to the count code NYZ037 to NYC065 and it works now.
Cant that be a change in the script somewhere to monitor county and zone alerts?

The following are explanations from NWS that someone else on another forum got back that was having the same issues (advisories appearing in the county feed and not the zone).  The bottomline is, you really need to include both zone and county in your scripts.

Quote
Some background: GAZxxx is a zone code for a Georgia county. It will be the code used in products like ATLNOWFFC (http://www.srh.noaa.gov/data/FFC/NOWFFC), ATLSPSFFC (http://www.srh.noaa.gov/data/FFC/SPSFFC), etc. Watches (eg http://www.srh.noaa.gov/data/FFC/WCNFFC) and warnings (eg http://www.srh.noaa.gov/data/FFC/SVRFFC) use what is commonly referred to as a FIPS code in the form of GACxxx for Georgia. This doesn't explain why your software suddenly stopped working unless the service provider recently switched from using zone codes for warnings to the more proper FIPS codes.

The Zone and FIPS codes are not always a direct substitution because some counties are broken up into several zones (eg North and South Fulton) while FIPS codes always (?) cover the entire county. Well, I'll say "always" in Georgia.

I'll see what I can find out tomorrow about the RSS feed. Using both GAZ034 and GAC135 may get you all products for your county. It's worth a shot.

FFW (http://www.srh.noaa.gov/data/FFC/FFWFFC) also uses FIPS codes (GACxxx). All warnings should. I can't think of any that don't.

Mike,

Love the script, works great. I had to add blizzard to the list of warnings. It's the first blizzard in this part of the country in 100 years.
