Strange JPG files [RESOLVED]
« on: June 11, 2009, 10:17:55 PM »
Can anyone please explain why all my JPG files look so strange -- see attachment?  Or is this normal?  I'm using a Logitech QuickCam Pro 9000.  Thanks.  All other files are fine.

Cheers,

Rick

Hi Rick,

Have you tried installing the latest graphics card drivers for your system? It may not help, but it does look a little like a graphics card issue to me. Sometimes these odd images can appear in specific programs and not in general use and installing the latest drivers often sorts it.

its your webcam setup
you have source/destination loop back setup problem
i.e where the source file is the same as the output file

reset your webcam/animated web cam setttings in WD,to get back to normal
then set that up one by one

I've already tried that Mark.  As far as I know I have the latest drivers.  But thanks for your suggestion.

As far as I know, all I've done is copy the instructions from www.weather-watch.com/smf/index.php/topic,12682.msg152579.html and I must have checked it 5 or 6 times now.  I assume there's no source/destination loop in those instructions.  I can't find one anyway.

Nevertheless, as I've mentioned in another post, I did change the folder in those instructions from wdisplay/webcam to mypictures/quickcam.  I've now swapped that back and I'll see what happens.  If it doesn't work, I'll reset it all as it was before I started -- I've got the original files on another computer and can copy them back -- leave it for a day, then start again.

Trouble is, I'm out for most of the weekend, so it'll probably be Monday before I get back to it  :(.

Cheers,

Rick

Hi Brian,

Good news bro – it works  :D :D :D.  I downloaded another version of WD to another computer and reset everything on the main one to the default start setup by copying from one to the other.  Then, I redid all entries as per the 12682.msg152579.html file mentioned above.  Whatever I did in that process, all the files now seem to work in the following folders:
  • wdisplay\webcam
  • wdisplay\alldayvideo
  • wdisplay\webfiles.
Clearly, I had made an incorrect entry somewhere and, despite searching some half dozen times, could not find it.

However, the following do not seem to work:
  • anything in an alldayvideotensecond folder
  • videolasthour.swf on the web.
In the case of the alldayvideotensecond, I guess that doesn’t matter.  No new files were created in this folder since I fixed up the program.

However, I think I need the videolasthour.swf  to work if I want an animated file embedded on my webpage.  Or have I misunderstood what you’ve said before?  Right now it shows the strange yellow figures as seen in an earlier post, but animated.

More to the point, in the WDL Configurator.exe file and in the webcams tab, can I run with videolasthour.wmv on the webpage itself and videolastday.wmv via a separate tab on the webpage?  When I try to set either of them up right  now, I get “getting image” and it sits there for about 30 seconds, followed by “error loading image”.  And the two files have been uploaded and run OK

Apart from all that, I did get a strange error dialogue box on the screen this morning – please see the two attachments.  What do these mean, please?

Thanks heaps for your help here mate.  It’s all most appreciated – very much so.

Cheers,

 Rick

that will only work if you have the option set to use that

do you have the time stamped files being copied to the alldayvideo folder?

also, are you using vista or xp?

Rick,

I believe you can only use an image file with WDL (possibly a .swf as well) however I am pretty sure that videolasthour.wmv cannot be displayed from WDL.

the mpg file can  not be displayed with WDL, but the .wmv should be able to (flash video) (at least it used to)
as long as that file is on your server (try vieing it directly)
i.e
http://www.morseweather.com/videolasthour.swf

Hi Brian and Bob,

Thanks for your replies.  They’re most appreciated  :).

Do you have the time stamped files being copied to the alldayvideo folder?

Yes.  Well, I have jpgwebcam.jpg files prefixed with the time and assume these are “date-stamped files”.  And they open fine as do four other files in that folder, namely videolasthour.wmv, videolasthour.mpeg, videolastday.wmv and videolastday.mpeg.  I’d be wrapped if I could get videolasthour.wmv to work on the webcam tab on my website.  If you go to www.morseweather.com/wxlive.php and click on the webcam tab, you’ll see it’s static.

The file supposed to be viewed there right now is animatedwebcam.gif.  Animated webcam works fine when viewed on my website at http://www.morseweather.com/animatedwebcam.gif.   It also looks fine when viewed in the WDL Configurator program at the webcam tab, i.e. is animated.  However, it’s not animated on the website as mentioned above

Are you using vista or xp?

XP Professional, 2002, Service Pack 3.

I believe you can only use an image file with WDL (possibly a .swf as well) however I am pretty sure that videolasthour.wmv cannot be displayed from WDL.

OK.  However, others have animated images on their websites.  Do you have any idea what file(s)/system(s) are they using, please.

The mpg file cannot be displayed with WDL, but the .wmv should be able to (flash video) (at least it used to) as long as that file is on your server (try viewing it directly)
i.e. http://www.morseweather.com/videolasthour.swf

I’ve viewed it and it is the one with the yellow animated figures described above in an earlier post and shown static as an attachment.

Cheers,

Rick

you need to tick to create the video hourly ( videolasthour.mpg)
from which the .wmv files are created from

Thanks Brian.  However, two things:

  • That box is not ticked on the example I was following under WD FAQs -- www.weather-watch.com/smf/index.php/topic,12682.msg152579.html.  Despite that, videolasthour.mpg and wmv was being created and it worked when opening it both in wdisplay/alldayvideo and at www.morseweather.com/
  • Since ticking the box, it seems that the videolasthour file is so small (both mpeg and wmv) that there is nothing to run -- it's over so quickly that there's nothing to see.

So, I'm no better off, maybe worse.  Sorry mate  :(.  Any other suggestions, please.

Cheers,

Rick
