WM-918
« on: May 19, 2009, 08:24:10 AM »
Guys,

Been over 2 yrs since I ve been here. Believe it or not I am still using my first & only weather station the infamous WM918. I've had it over 5 yrs & its never missed a beat EXCEPT for tonight. I came home & there was no data upload going on. I thought it might have been the COMM port that had carked it, so I hooked the cable up to another port. No go. I fossiked around for a spare controller that I had  ( i bought 3 WM918's from Ebay many yrs ago for spares). Hooked it up & it started to work again. It was then I noticed that the original controller seemed to have locked up, so I took out the batteries & put them back , fired it up again & it now works. There had been a power outage today, so maybe it freaked out or something, who knows. But its now working well.

Just out of interest, is anyone still using a WM918??

cheers

I have 4  WM918's at different locations.  One has been running continuously for 9 years. The other 3 between 6 and 7 years.
I have had to renew 1 Temp/humidity sensor due to an abraded cable,  1 rain gauge which failed to record, and 1 anemometer/wind direction unit on which the bearings for the anemometer partially seized.
Interestingly enough all the faults were at one location, the other 3 stations have been problem free.

thats good to hear.

I remember when I bought mine there was a lot of unhappy people out there who had problems, it seemed like you either got a good one or a bad one.

Fortunately I got a good one.

I have a WM918 still mounted on my roof and need an outside temp/humidity sensor and the junction box to resurrect it.  I sent these in to Skyview systems to repair and never received them back.  Does anyone have these parts that they are willing to sell from either a spare or now unloved station?  My WM918 worked for some months before it came up with the ---- error.  I tried the usual fixes but no dice.  I am willing to have another go though, especially as it is still connected to an old laptop to collect the data.  The most important part is the outside sensor; I can make the junction box from circuit drawings.
Thanks in Anticipation!,
