Some more information.

I detected that my machine had some memory errors so I swapped to another Mac mini (core duo), made a clean installation of Ubuntu desktop (I had server version earlier) and reinstalled consolewd. It's the same. So there seems to be issues with Ubuntu itself, giving this "Inconsistency thing". Maybe the build of consolewd is set up to specify a certain version of a lib? Or an expected certain location for some file? Just guessing here...

try this libusbdll, download the zip file, remane it to libusbdll.so and then copy the file into consolewdfiles/deploy. do not expect any miracle, I do not really know if the change I've made will run.

Good luck.

Thanks Yves! Will try it as soon as I'm back to the linux machine.

Hi! I tried the updated libusbdll, but unfortunately it didn't help in my case. If I just have time tonight, I'll start from scratch with my kids' computer (sorry kids, but I'll work only on the Linux partition ;-), install everything one package at time and check when the system breaks.

I have had this problem in the past 'was a compile option I was using. This time I changed an other option -fpic to -fPIC. I'll try something else.

I installed mythtv on another host (ubuntu 8.04) package by package. It took a "while", and you may guess that wdconsole worked still : 8O. However, now it was running on a wrong host. #-o. It seems that the Assertion failed comes ONLY with Irox (59) and WMR100 (232). Other stations pass the point printing "www.weather-display.com". Naturally, I don't have any other station. But even with WMR100, the same problem comes both with station connected or removed.

I have also uninstalled mythtv from my server, and reinstalled some of the libs, but the problem remains... Somewhat frustrating  :)

... Somewhat frustrating  :)

Problem solved (at least partially) After reading multiple strace outputs, I just tried to remove the first USB device that the software found: Terratec Cinergy USB TV stick. After that wdconsole started to work again! I had a plan to use the server also as my TV recorder, but now I have to postpone that work. Well, I guess it wouldn't have happened anyway during the next six months

This Terratec device was not the problem with my previous, Ubuntu 8.04 installation, while it was not connected at that time. I can't remember what could have been the problem device at that time.

Thanks,
Petri

I finally had an opportunity to test but unfortunately it's still the same. Trying the latest wdconsole 5.98 and also tried upgrading to Ubuntu 9.04. Think it's time to give up... :(

You may want to hang on a bit as several of us had problems with 5.98.  When Brian puts out a new release you will want to try.  Also, make sure you start the program with the GoWdconsole.sh script not with the consolewd executable.

well guys, I've joined your plight with this error.  I'm running Ubuntu 9.04 64bit with a WH1081 station on the latest version of wdconsole (6.2).

try using the library files that come with the xscreen version install, in the deploy folder

I finally gave up and have now written my own data logger that runs natively on Mac OS X - wdconsole was perfect for my needs and the only reason for running Linux at all. So now I'm 100% pure mac again and have a weather logger. Still needs some trimming of some rough edges before a release, but it's soon available for free. http://www.ejeklint.se/development/wmr100n-driver-for-mac-os-x/

note that I can compile consolewd on my mac to run on a mac
If I had only known that is what you were looking for

also, though, did you see the post above where the problem was related to other USB devices connected?

ps, its not good that you are releasing information on the wmr100 protocol, as that info is not public info

also, note that WD for the mac works OK with the wmr100 (full graphical version)
and so it looks like you are now going to be competing with me on that (i.e by offering free software when I am trying to pay the bills here)
