consolewd for synology powerpc
« on: October 23, 2008, 01:09:51 PM »
Hello my Name is Joachim and i am from Germany,
so excuse me for the english i write here.

I have tried to install consolewd on my Synology Diskstation DS106j.

I get this error:

DiskStation> sh GoWdconsole.sh
./consolewd: ./consolewd: 1: Syntax error: "(" unexpected
DiskStation>

I have search this Forum for any solution, but I think the Problem is. That the consolwd is not for this cpu compiled.
In the DS106j is this cpu:
Freescale MPC8241LVR266D (4K78P; QQKU0628) Integrated Host Processor (CPU), PowerPC 603e based

How could i install weather display on this. Have anyone a compiled version for me ?

Thank you very much for your answers.

Greetings from Germany

Joachim

Thank you,

i have no Idea how i could self compile this software.
But I think, anyone have the same problem.
Where can i download the uncompiled version of consolewd.

Then I will search an compiler for the PowerPC which is in the Synology.

I hope, i will find something.

Greetings Joachim

Hi Joachim,

The software is closed source so you cannot compile your own version.

I'm not sure what it's written in ... I think Brian mentioned in passing about it being Pascal-like.

Hi Joachim,

If you can't wait for Brian to get back is PPC box, an alternative may be to try and find an Intel virtualizer which runs on PPC chipset.  I think it'd be _very_ slow.

An alternate solution would be to buy a cheap Intel box, install Linux and display the console on your PPC machine.

Hi Joachim
I wonder if your box is running Linux for PPC.
for sure Wdconsole you've downloaded is for intel chipset that explain the syntax error "./consolewd: ./consolewd: 1: Syntax error: "(" unexpected" you are seeing.
Could you please enter the command uname -a at the prompt.

Thanks
Yves

Pablo,
Have you seen a flock of french student hanging around in wakefield?

I was not sure, but now here is the answer : wdconsole was compiled against linux Intel or ARM (the slug).  I do not know what Brian is planning to do but having Wdconsole compiled on a ppc MAc won't resolve your problem.

I thought that if I did compile it on a powerpc, then it would work for this person?

I don't think it'll work either because we have different O/S's.

We have a common chipset but that's it:  Mac O/S versus Linux.

I think it's obvious when you consider Microsoft versus Linux, same chip, different O/S.

btw, any thoughts on my problem with clientraw.txt?  If you want to wait and fix it later, that's cool.  Just so I know you know it's out there.  :)

Thx!

but I would be compiling it under macOS on the needed chipset (using Lazarus)
i.e just like the fact I do have a verison of WD (full )for the Mac Powerpc

I have not had time to look at your thread yet, sorry

It may work if you statically link the object.  It'll add bloat to the executable but it'll remove dependencies on libc etc.

No worries on my thread Brian; glad it's still on your radar.  :)  Should I send you gentle reminders once a week or it'll be in your `i'll get to it' pile?
