Decimals for setting sleet threshold and snow threshold
« on: October 16, 2008, 05:21:54 PM »
Hi Brian,

It would be great if you could make it so that the thresholds for sleet/snow could be adjusted with 1 decimal place, for example sleet at 1.4 degrees and snow at 0.4 degrees etc.

Or just half-degrees would be nice, like 1.5 or 0.5 etc.

Best Regards,
Martin

thats one of showing how much snow....
this winter, the NI mountain ski area of NZ had to extend the height of the snow measuring stake , as a record of over 5 m (18 feet) depth of snow had accumulated

latest .zip has the decimal added

Thanks!

Yeah we're not getting that amounts where I live, not high enough in the mountains.  :D
But last season we had near 200 cm here at one point.

But several other places higher up gets double and triple those amounts of snow.

Brian,

Just reporting in on this new feature.
It's not possible to adjust the decimal digit above 3. But the negative numbers can be adjusted to -9.

So with this in mind, to get the Sleet threshold at 1.5 I set it 2 -5 (should equal 1 5) and to get the
snow threshold to 0.5 I set it at 1 -5 (should equal 0 5) .

But this didn't work properly (probably because of using negative numbers).

With that setting and 2.4 degrees outside with a little bit of precip. the clientraw.txt reported:

048   Icon Type   Z   14 (Night Rain)
049   Weather Desc   L   Night time/Snow fall

So something is weird here. Again, probably because I've set it to use negative decimal numbers.

I've adjusted Sleet to 1 3 now (1.3 degrees threshold) and Snow to 0 3 (0.3 degrees threshold), so I'll keep an eye on it.
Hoping you can make it be possible to adjust the decimals above 3.

Best Regards,
Martin

Brian,

Temp at 1.3 now and still a little precipitation in the air, setting the thresholds to 1 3 (sleet) and 0 3 (snow) didn't help, check the clientraw.txt info:

048   Icon Type   Z   14 (Night Rain)
049   Weather Desc   L   Night time/Snow fall

edit:

Now after the precipitation incident, the clientraw.txt now correctly dispalys this:

048   Icon Type   Z   1 (Clear Night)
049   Weather Desc   L   Night time/Stopped raining

So it seems that it's just the clientraw.txt field number 49 "weather description" that is wrong.

But you need to check on those decimals too, it seems they broke something as it didn't matter
how I set the thresholds.

for a 1.5 threshild, set the 2 numbers as 1 and 5

As I wrote earlier, that's impossible to set it to 1 5 as the only decimal options are 1,2 or 3. So 1 3 is the highest it can go.
If I manually type in 5 instead of using the up/down arrow the number reverts back to 3.

But it's not only that, the weather description icon was also wrong no matter what I set the thresholds to.

There's something wrong which needs to be fixed.  :)

Martin

Hi Brian,

Has these two fixed made it into the build 6 .zip file? Haven't seen any mentioning of it on the Version History page.
