Bashy, it needs to be colder, , not warmer (which will happen when its not a black body (because the jar will trap heat))

Ah ok, Well funny you say that Brian, I took it all down today and replaced the Flask with the light bulb of which was a lot more responsive due to the much smaller size, I added some black electrical tape to the lower half of the bulb, so will see how things go now :)

Thanks for bearing with me, but having said that, it more than likely was the other way round Brian
but i cannot remember as all i wrote on the pad at 4am was 11.2 and 13.2 that was it dont ask why
i didnt write any more i was half asleep, i wish i had now lol...

Actually, during writing this post i decided to go though the logs, both the 92008lg and the
9200extralog and the solar was 11.2 and the temp was 12.2, but anyway, i have now done
black tape so hopefully all will be well now :)

also use the latest .zip update, as I had the code the wrong way around for the home made night time cloud detector

I have newest build (b12) and have set overcast to -1.2 and clear to -2.1 and current difference is between maintemp and solartemp is -0.6 but WD shows night_clear...  :-k

Ideas?

Brian, is it possible for you to add settable times for night time activation please?
What i mean is, My solar is blocked for the last 30 to 60 minutes of sun by houses
so i would like to turn this cloud sensor on when the sun has gone behind the houses

Or, does it have to be night time? The reason i am asking this to is because the sun
went down a while back, still daylight though and overcast and my solar is 14.1 as is
my temperature, so if this was enabled now, then the icon would be correct stating
its overcast, or again, does it have to be dark for the sensor to become colder than
the temp for a clear sky? just thinking out loud i suppose!!

Also, what time does it actually switch over to the cloud sensor settings?

it actualy will start working just before sunset, i.e at the point where the incoming solar heating is not enough to cover the losses to space from radiation
(thats why a frost can be worst just after sunrise)
but I have it set to start working from sunset to sunrise

Hi Brian

Running Build 14, and not detecting as expected The night slight cloud

Outside = 12.7
Solar = 12.2

Overcast set to 0.2
Clear set to 0.5 Icon still shows overcast night

Tried playing with the values but no change, Any averaging going on?

yes, the data is averaged , for a reading every second , average for the last minute
but the problem with your setup will be that your extra temp sensor does not update all that often (every 30 seconds maybe?)
I will do a test by pluging in some dummy values using your thresholds to check

also, there is a debug mode you can turn on:
 go to setup, advanced/misc, then tick to log the raw data
then look under view, ws2010/ws2500 data setup, to see the cloud value (0 to 3) (updated every minute)
but I will also add to show more debug info like the temperature difference used, etc,,,

FYI See 2 images, 1 for clear & 1 for cloudy night, White = Ouside Sensor, Orange = Solar Sensor (Jam Jar)
