WD users guide/manual
« on: September 13, 2008, 07:50:37 PM »
Is there such a thing available? I was unable to find one on their website.....I would like to do a little reading or research before starting my 30 day trial. I have downloaded the program but haven't opened it up yet...hence the wanting to research it a bit so I can be better prepared.

WD is a great program, I don't think there's anything it can't do. But it's not the easiest program to learn, it takes a while. :)
I can of course only speak by personal experience.

Good luck! :)

Martin

Also - use this thread and ask any questions here... ;)

It also accepts other equipment other than your weather station, like Boltek Lightening  equipment or 1-wire addon instruments, and many more especially hobby stuff and the author is nearly always on line to assist with problems and new interesting equipment - he has just written code for a moving LED display screen to display the current weather details...

Enjoy the wonderful world of Weather Display!!  BTW, AFAIK the 30 day free trial is not restricted in application or detail in any way.

Thanks...I was aware of all of those extra reasons you mentioned...and already had every intention of using WD "eventually" ......I just installed weather link and was thinking of customizing it some...but reality hit me that IF I'm gonna have to learn something from the ground up..I might as well learn about what I ultimately intend to run..which is WD....

Thanks for all of the replies...and you are almost garaunteed for some follow up questions....would you recommmend coming right out of the gate with the PHP flavor????

If you mean the website so yes, I started out knowing nothing and just made a simple website, but it didn't take long until I moved over to the wonderful Carterlake/AJAX template.
http://saratoga-weather.org/template/index.php

Now I'm pretty happy with my site. But what I do suggest is to get comfy with WD first, then set up your website.

Best Regards,
Martin

Not sure at this point if I will start with an HTML website or PHP right from the start.......but as I have personally experienced on another unrelated forum I have been on for years......forum friends can be invaluable.....one of this forums members "Daveq" has offered to come by my house and help me get WD up and running.....sometimes you do get to say, there are still some wonderful people in this world....a lot of users sites I have looked at have absolutely wow'ed me and they were running the php stuff, that is where I want to end up for sure..but also don't want to overwhelm myself right away either.....many questions to follow, after tomorrow...I read a thread here where some of the experienced users literally wallked another user by the hand into setting up all of his php scripts...priceless, and hopefully I can be so lucky also.. 8)

My experience tells me to start out with PHP.  I started out with HTML on another part of my site and the clutter is immense.

If you are familiar with html I think you'll find php to be a breeze.
I had never touched html except for the random <img src> line etc.

At least now I can understand a bit how php works, but I still heavily rely on copy/paste. )
