WMR918 Rain Sensor TX LED always "ON"

Hi

I have a WMR 918 weather station, I noticed that the rain sensor transmitter LED is always "ON". The LED goes off when you unplug the sensor.

I have tried another TX and the same happens, I have tried a reset and checked the AA batteries.

Is this a known issue?

Is the Always "ON" an indication of something?

Any pointers would be appreciated.

I had this issue a while back Brian, and discovered that there was water in the connector/cable from the rain gauge to the TX unit.  Water had actually got into the TX unit, but it was the water in the RJ-11 connector that was causing the TX light to constantly be lit (like you, I confirmed this by swapping the TX unit).

I would say there is a good chance of a short somewhere either inside the cable or inside the bucket itself.

I believe the LED in the transmitter indicates when the sensor is drawing current, i.e. it only comes on for a short while every 60 seconds, when the sensor wakes up and sends its data.

I feel that the LED glowing (not full on) indicates that there is some leakage current on the sensor PCB, this could be due to damp or a faulty joint / component.

Mine stopped glowing after I applied some pressure to the centre of the sensor PCB.

Whilst it was glowing the sensor / transmitter continued to function correctly.

Hope this helps anybody with a similar condition.
