A google gem
« on: July 12, 2008, 12:00:54 AM »
I've been looking for some way of getting a local 5 day forecast with icons on my web site. I'm still trying to work that out, so if you have any ideas please let me know! Any way in my search I found this, which may be of interest to some of you. It's google's xml file that feeds it's weather forecast.

Here's the URL: http://www.google.com/ig/api?weather=london,UK&hl=en

Simply change "london" to your city, and "UK" to your country or state if you are in the US, and you will get the xml data for your location. When you do a search on google for "your town weather", at the top of the listings you get a graphical forecast. This is basically the xml file google uses to power that.

Now I only wish I knew enough about xml and php or even flash to make use of it! If you manage to get something to work, please share it with me!  :D

WxSim can generate a forecast using your data as well as external sources.  Have a read thru the wxsim forum on this board to get an idea of what it can do for you.

have you concidered using the Saratoga/Carter Lake templates? You could then show WeatherUndergrounds forcast on your site, a sample of the forcast  is here......http://www.wunderground.com/global/stations/03827.html, and with the templates it would look something like this.....http://www.evansville-weather.com/wxforecast.php

Ken's made a 'stand-alone' version of the Wunderground forecast script that you can use here: http://saratoga-weather.org/scripts-WUforecast.php#WUforecast
