Iowa looks like hurricane Katrina.  Its Just a Mess.  they cannot evacuate people fast enough.  Cedar Rapids has had close to 3 more inches of Rain today.

I think its no different out in Des Monies. Has anyone heard from  aardvark?   I hope he and the Miss's are OK

I appreciate the care... we are fine.

I was out and about this morning, and went by 86th and University then down Buffalo Road ( I don't know if it had Buffalo or someone by the name of Big Buffalo pooped there or..)  but Walnut Creek looked like a small river as it went around the varous bends.  Looks like the BP oil depot might have osme water over their levees if the rain doesn't stop.. But we had 1.76 inches since 1 am and another 0.59 yesterday and that is a lot of rain.

Several housing areas are in trouble .. Birdland down near where I went to high school ( and to teach next year).. North High.. the levee by the Old River View park .. Seems the water comes up  via the river near Euclid and can proceed to fill on both sides of the levee  which is interesting.

So.. we wait and see what happens.  The waterworks folks tell us not to worry about losing our water.  They did build a second water treatment plant at Dale Maffit lake in case..  but the water is only up 3 feet on their 14 foot levee around the plant.

Some more roads around town are also closed due to the water output of the Saylorville area.

However..  Eastern Iowa is also taking it in the chops as well.. Cedar Falls, Waterloo, Iowa City to mention a few are also  having their headaches  as I understand Dubuque.. Ithought I heard.

And to top all of this mess, we have the loss of life at the Boy Scout Camp in Weatern Iowa. 4 kids ages 13, and 14 in that terrible tornado.  I hope none of the other injured kids do worse..  And to think the psychological effects on those kids who did make it..

Mom used to tell me two things most of the time when I thought the world was against me or that I had really screwed up so bad, it wouldn't get better.  Rule 1  was if you think it bad, someone else has it worse.   Rule 2 was refer to rule 1.

The high water levels were due to continue into Saturday as the region received more water last night and the rivers were already full, the day looks fine but according to ADVK he has had another 1.75" rain today - storms last night carried after midnight I think.  You'd do well to have one of those everglades fan buggy things - an attachment to the lawnmower? probably needs mowing again...

so how are things in your neck of the swamp?

I did get out in the garden with the weed wacker and got rid of some weeds higher than the tomatos.. too muddy for a real purging...

Did get the grass trimmed by the weather sensors, though..

anyway.. here is a map of what is closed as far as roads.. not to plot a course to the airport from aardvark's lair ... should be interesting..

the problem we have here.. is that any rain to the north dumps into the river basin....

The next problem will be mosquitos from the standing water when it goes down.  My granddaughter gets an allergic reaction to the bites lately.. we are treating it with hydrocortisone cream 2%  and some benedryl.. kind of bouncing her between benedryl ( which makes her too tired for piano lessons) and claritan   .  ME?

I get bitten and the bite gets large, but I put some benedryl lotion and it does the trick.

a week of no rain anywhere in the state would be nice..  then in July and August.. an inch a week after the ground dries out.. no more, no less..

The sun is nice.. makes everything grow.. I am going to need to re mow the back yard tomorrow morning it looks like, then do the front and then collapse in a heap.

Stay safe out there... we're drying out a little today but there's lots of standing water and mosquitoes everywhere.

and aardvark took time from gathering animals by the two ( we are leaving flies and mosquitos here to fend for themselves)...

Installed two new weather sensor stations.. added a temp/humid in the basement and a temp station out by the FARS for comparison.

No,  it is going to get bad as the rain that fell a few days ago has come through the damn dam  and it is to top the levees.  They are getting people out of down town.

Speaking of pests,  people are actually going down there along the levees which are already soft is spots to get a better look at the water.  Concerns that they might just fall in the river... the good news would be the wouldn't do it twice.

Cedar Rapids is a complete mess.  that is where a lot of government contracts in electronics are as well as Quaker Oats is located.  The Quaker will be a quacker.

OH.. and polk county is emptying the county jail.. at last look that is 641 inmates .. they are moving them to state locations..
