WD crashes under XP after installing 9.97b

Hello all,
I have been running WD for a while now and have only a few times when WD would carshes and have to restart/reboot the PC.

After I installed 9.97b the problem came more frequently, like 4-5 times/day. I tried installing 9.97d to see if it would solve the problem but it’s still happening.

Any ideas on what the problem is? If I need to uninstall WD and reinstall, what config files do I need to save so I won’t have to go through and do all the setup settings again.

I have the error file generated by XP I can email if needed.

Also let me know what config files I need to supply.

Thanks,
John B.

humm
i know i definatly fixed a lock up (but it would recover) problem in 9.97b for win 98 users
There seems to be a few reports of problems since 9.97b though…
but I have not had any …
now, what weather station type and what windows version?

oh and to start feszh, but keep you current data
try:
install to a new directory
then save a file there called 2wd with notepad.exe
then wd will start up like new there, and set it up to start recording , and see how it goes
then you can merge data from the old location to the new one…

I’m running Windows XP Pro and a La Cropss WS2310 station.

Thanks for the sugestion on the fresh reinstall.

John

Hi all

Same problem here
Wd reboots this morning without any reasen
nothing in program error
lost my connections with sensors as well
(don’t know or its a battery prob the com port says its ok)

997d now see what happens
got now windsensor back
Win2k

On the reingstall, how do I merge the data?

Ed, how is that web cam reset working:
maybe that is causing your crash, at 2am…

jbreamer:
frist, start it up and set it up and see how it goes
then simply copy across the datafiles and logfiles folder and webfiles folders from the old location

Just thought of something else. How can I keep the save the settings from the old install and migrate to the new one.

Hi Brian

I’ll watch it tomorrow morning and see what time my
website did last update
Got my sensors back anyway now

Thanks so far !

He looks good those two guys left ! (the young one, LOL)

actualy, its 4am it does that reset (which might cause a crash…)
(i have not had a chance to test it)

i had been running around after some cows and calves that morning and was all hot and flustered!

Brian, with your help I have a new copy of WD running. I’ll post the results later.

John

Well…It was up for a couple of hours then XP gave the message that WD had a problem and needs to shut down.

What is the next thing on the list to try?

oh…
now, in the new directory, did it start up with no setings set?

Brian,
Yes. It started blank, out of the box clean.

I also renamed the old folder to XXX OLD and reinstalled WD so it would create a new folder. In this setup WD has also crashed.

I looked at Event Viewer under Application section and saw all the entries where WD has crashed.

Here are a few entries (or part of the entries):

This one is in more often…
Faulting application weatherd.exe, version 9.8.3.0, faulting module kernel32.dll, version 5.1.2600.0, fault address 0x0000d756.

This one was the last entry…
Faulting application weatherd.exe, version 9.8.3.0, faulting module weatherd.exe, version 9.8.3.0, fault address 0x0001b298.

Thanks again for your help in getting this solved.

John

humm, that error code just brings up a cpu window…
try the win95/nt version, on the download page, which is an older version…as a test

Brian,
I’ll do that. Should it be OK if I keep my settings/data from the old install?

yes, try installing back to the old directory, that older win 95/nt version
(which I am going to update soon)

Done…I’ll let you know how it goes.

John

what might be happening is some data from the ws2310 wd is not handling very well
what temperature/humidity/barometer?

Brian, The Win 95 version has been running for 11 hours now with no problem.

To answer your question:
Temp 39.3F
Humidity 81%
Pressure 30.209 in.
