NBH, that's snow at 11:56.It's been happening since around build 37 which is also snow season. Go into manual input, and make sure there are no decimal numbers in any of the snow settings (ie 0, not 0.0, or 435, not 435.3) Also, don't use the "increase all by amount" setting. I had these exact issues some time ago.   If this fixes it ok, but if not there may be the same issue in the ini files let me know and I will give you what I had to change there, but you  will need to wait until tomorrow to know :)

If you use MRC on the stale setting of 2 minutes it will see this happening and restarrt WD in time for the midnight reset (which did not happen for you last night if WD crashed at 11:56 pm)

All the best,
Jim

Hi,
I have not had any power cuts here, but every night at 23:56. WD stops for me?
It has been so since I installed Build 37.
Has now switched to Build 40, will see how it behaves during the night here.

Regards
Bertil

I also have had WeatherD freeze every night at 23:56. I just started using Weather Display with build 37, so I didn't realize it was the app. I wrote a couple of AppleScripts to quit & then restart WeatherD. I use MacScheduler to run the quit script at 23:55 (it runs about 20-30 seconds after the minute) & then run the launch script at 23:56. I've only been losing one minute of log data.

But last evening I got brave & installed the latest version of Weather Display & since then Weather Display is not working. It may or may not display any numbers & when it does, they don't match the WMR200A display. Now I can't get it to work at all. I tried deleting everything & reinstalling build 37 but it doesn't accept my registration code, so I again deleted everything (weatherd folders in both Applications & Application Support) & copied both folders back from a backup about a week ago. It now knows it's registered but still doesn't display or graph any data. The log files are adding data, but it's static - no changes in any of the numbers. I tried updating again & still nothing.

Fortunately, I have a second display (WMR100N) connected to a G4 Mac mini running Leopard that is using WeatherSnoop to upload to Weather Underground & I can get data from there. But the data is no where near as precise as the Weather Display data. The mathematician in me wants precision.

Can anyone help?

try checking out the thread where you can use WD now with weather snoop, via the tcp /ip data share

I tried that as well without luck.

I do not want to have to do an Erase & Install of Snow Leopard reinstall everything & then have to e-mail for another registration code just to get this working.

you do not have to erase
who said to do that?

need more information

that is not enough information to go on

others have the TCP/IP data share working with weather snoop, so you should be able to as well
make sure you have enabled that in the weather snoop program
and then tick that option in WD in the weather station type setup
then restart WD

also try running the tcpdatain program from a terminal window
(exit the current running run first (./killall tcpdatain)
then go
cd /../
cd /Applications/wdisplay/
./tcpdatain

and see what shows in the terminal window

there should be a file called tcpdatain.txt updated with the current data

I'm just trying to get Weather Display to work as it did before on my iMac. No one told me I need to do an Erase & Install. I think I'm going to need to do an Erase & Install because I see no other way to delete all of Weather Display. No matter what I delete there are still bits that a new install sees. Now I think I've done so much fiddling that there is no other way. I really think Weather Display needs an uninstaller or a way to go back to a previous version.

I have WeatherSnoop running on another Mac, the G4 Mac mini, to upload to Weather Underground. I don't have Weather Display on that Mac.

You have entered snow recently? There is a lot on this forum on the 23:56 stall due to snow input settings. Search is your friend. Inputting decimals in the manual snow input causes this.

Also, why write all kinds of Applescripts and others when MacRunCheck is available free to all Weather Display users? See the thread on that.

I have never heard of any user having to erase and install any OS to update or remove Weather Display. Not necessary.

incorrect. There are no "bits" left after uninstalling WD Mac. I make the installer and know exactly every file that is placed on the system.

To uninstall Weather Display, delete the /Applications/wdisplay folder, simple as that. Your data is safe in the Application Support/wdisplay folder, and there is no programs that run from that folder so delete it if you don't want to keep that data. If you want to uninstall the system extensions that come with Weather Display, there are only 3 of them, regardless of what others tell you. They are wdusbshieldirox.kext, wdusbirox.kext, and labjacknohid.kext all located in /System/Extensions folder

NOTE: the Library folder we speak of is the first one you see after opening your Hard disk, NOT the library folder in your Home folder.

Finally, to downgrade to an older version of WD Mac, simply use the old version's installer, it will perform the changes needed to go back to an older version as that is a flag I set in the package in order to allow that. I have most recent builds if you need one. :)

Sounds like your installation was on another drive or something we are not aware of. The installer places the program in /Applications/wdisplay/ and updates all the files to the latest versions. Do a search on weatherd and check each location to ensure you are not running duplicate copies of the program. I have seen this multiple times where a user moved the program to the desktop, then installed and started a second copy of it.. and even some who have tried to run 2 copies at the same time lol.

Hope this helps,
All the best,
Jmar

No, I have not entered any snow.

I had already written the scripts & they were working well. I took a look at MacRunCheck yesterday & couldn't figure it out. I probably could, but it wasn't necessary.

Then why won't the old installer work? It gives me errors saying it can't install because there is a newer version installed.

I know that.

Sorry, it doesn't help. I realize you don't know me & my level of knowledge, but I am not a novice. I've tried everything you've suggested. I let the installer install Weather Display on my internal boot drive & I never moved anything. As I said, it was working well other than the freeze at 23:56 every day. My problems started when I "upgraded" to the latest build two days ago. Yes, I just ran the installer & let it upgrade the existing installation. Now I just want to get back to where I was.

the original method of using the usbreader should work still
I will check on that to make sure that still works

did you back up your older version?
(which version and build was that?)

have you tried getting weathersnoop running on the pc?
you most likely will need to delete the ketch file then reboot the pc

Peggy, sorry if you thought I was suggesting you are a novice, not my intent there.

If there is a really old reciept on the system that is probably what is preventing you from downgrading. Just go into /Library/Receipts/  and delete all receipts with Weather Display in the name. The most recent installers place a receipt there with a tag that lets you downgrade, but older ones didn't. Just delete them all and you can run  any older  WD installer.

I will look up the 23:56 issue for you that I had myself after I had done some work with snow. There is a fix to the wdisplay.ini file you can do and that will eliminate the 23:56 issue, unless Windy can refresh us here as to what line needs to be changed. I will pm you on it.

MacRunCheck is very... very simple to use. Start the program, Drag WD Mac to the application section, drag clientraw.txt to the file to watch section, set the 2 times at 120 and 120 seconds for starters, then tweak later... then press start.. All there is to it.  Everything else is an option.

I don't know if your upgrade to Snow Leopard is recent, but if it coincides with all these issues, a couple tips..  you should also consider running Disk Utility and repairing permissions on your HD, a practice that is highly recommended for the SL updates, actually before and after each one. Also check your printers operation and ensure it is selected in the System preferences as the default printer, by right clicking on it in the Print & Fax preference panel in Sys preferences. Also, never upgrade the OS with a periphal attached (printer, weather station)  Many posts on that around the forums. These are the big things that have been known to choke new SL installs/upgrades.

If you think you would like to reinstall Snow Leopard after all, just go to apple support and download the Snow Leopard Mac OS X10.6.2 COMBO updater. It will completely refresh you without going through the hassles  of a forklift (erase and install). repair permissions after though :)

Hope this helps.

My initial install of Weather Display was whatever version was current around January 1. I bought the license for Weather Display on January 10. I am new to Weather Display, not the Mac or Snow Leopard. My Snow Leopard install is not new. I'm an early adopter & installed it the day it was released. The only updating I've done to Snow Leopard since I installed Weather Display is a recent security update. I ALWAYS use the combo updaters. I'm not going to try to remember & detail how many times I've repaired permissions & restarted my iMac in the last two days alone. I've even used OnyX to delete caches, done Safe Boots, etc. You're just going to have to trust me that I know how to update/upgrade safely.

I was not saying you were treating me as a novice, just clarifying my ability. But MacRunCheck may be simple to you because you wrote it, but 5 steps to start is much more complex than my 3-line AppleScript. I got lost trying to find out what file I was supposed to drag onto it.

Tell application "WeatherD"
quit
end tell

No, I would not like to reinstall Snow Leopard, that's why I'm posting here. To figure out how delete Weather Display, reinstall it & get it working as before on my very stable OS.

to delete the settings files (back them up first)
delete the WDISPLAY.INI and wdisplayftp.ini file from /Library/Application Support/wdisplay/

an older version:

I finally was able to remove all traces of Weather Display. I had to use the freeware program Find Any File to find the receipts & a plist. These were in folders that Spotlight cannot/does not search.

I now have Build 41 running but it will not accept my registration code. It continues to say Trial. Do I have to e-mail a request for a new registration code each time I reinstall? Granted, I should not have had to reinstall from scratch, but shouldn't it accept my code when I do?

you only need to re register if you deleted all the files and have no back up, etc
email for a new code

Thank you, I will e-mail. I didn't want to save any files because I was having so many problems & I have no idea which one to save to retain the registration.
