WUrapidfire.exe TR/Spy.Gen? -> false positive
« on: February 16, 2008, 04:13:41 PM »
I've recently come to a problem with Antivir detecting the WUrapidfire.exe as a trojan "TR/Spy.Gen"
I've never had this problem with Antivir and have run both processes at the same times for months.
Could be the virus definitions.. but does anyone have any suggestions on how i can fix this?
I keep hitting the "Ignore" button.. but almost every time it sends info to wunderground (rapid fire) the box comes up again.
Thanks

The definition indicates it is more of a detection routine, than an actual virus.

Description:
A generic detection routine designed to detect common family characteristics shared in several variants.
This special detection routine was developed in order to detect unknown variants and will be enhanced continuously.

Which most likely is resulting in a false positive.

Most well constructed Anti-Virus programs can exclude specific files or directories so that they don't generate errors any further.

All you need is Time, Aptitude and Desire ... and you can build just about anything...

put the file on your ignore list.   I use Pestpatrol as well as Windows live care and they don't detect it.  I am thinking that since the software item  starts and stops without a mouse click or keyboard  activation,  your program "thinks"  it is acting trojan or spyware.  Which is a good thing.

however, put it on your ignore list, or whatever you do to allow programs.

I know when ever I get a new WD version, my firewall asks me if I want to allow it and even the wunderground upload, it does the same, so I allow it now.. I start the new version, go into the Weather Underground item, send the current days data in that load many days option and it lets me know there is a problem, I hit allow and I am good forever. :wink:

My pc with AntiVir is also detecting TR/Spy.Gen. When I quarantine the detection, my rapid-fire stops working. Is this a true virus?  Are there an solutions to this problem?http://
