Hey Chaser80,

Recently, I lost yet another DS9097U to lightning.  While I was waiting for my new 1 to come in, I ran across this post;

http://www.buoy.com/pipermail/weather/2004-May/001217.html

The "repair" of the DS9097U does work.  I used my patched one 'til my new 1 got in.  It's now my tester/spare.  Since this eliminates a protective element, I wouldn't suggest it long term but in a pinch......

Also, the advice of disconnecting everything, then bringing them back 1 at a time is the only way to go when things get "1wire weird".  Once I had a DS18S20's get "funky" after a strike and only found it bad by watching each sensor run for awhile using the I-button viewer.   (Sometimes normal other times inordinate delay times between updates)

I feel for ya, fellow.  Just about every time my 1wire net broke meant lots of trips from sensor locations to the 'puter.

Best of luck!

Well sir, count yourself lucky.  My wife expresses considerable frustration being subjected to my "weather whims  :lol:

I find it best to trod the well worn weather path myself.   :wink:

Take care,

Steve

this is what I found on my hub with just the power plugged in, not to the computer

All tested on the data lines, Pass thru or “out” has a fluctuating 1.3-1.6 volts trickling thru, as does the “in”  is this normal?
The other 6 channels all have a constant 5.09 volts thru the data lines.

The data lines from the adaptor have a trickle at rest of 0.1-0.1V

Ok so I read a thing that someone gave me a link to on the 1-wire forum so I did it and it works now

When I plug anything in it recognises it…temp/hum on a short lead and normal lead to the Stevenson screen, wind. Baro, only will recognize with the power injector plugged in, and it recognizes a smart battery monitor…it continues to recognize it when I plug it in without the injector, then it goes to 0 devices.

Does recognize the hub, but will only recognize things that are plugged into the “out” nothing else.
Now just plugged in the power injector, to baro to temp/hum to rain. Works fine. How hot should the metal bit on the power injector get….hot to touch that you cant? This one is. Tomorrow will set it up so I go power injector to baro to temp/hum to wind to rain…see how that goes. still to scared to plug in the hub to all this

Any ideas? Tom

Hey again Chaser80,

Your on the right track, isolate, isolate!

PS;  Much of the difference in the "injected" 5 volts regulated vs voltage supplied to your power injector is disapated as heat.  Since your Baro came back online after connecting it to the injector, I'm assuming that you are using a wall adapter capable of greater than 15 volts.  Plenty of potential for a "toasty" feel.

Re: The drop out of your bat monitor, are the voltages supplied by the injector what is required to run it?  I'm not familiar with this sensor but maybe it can run "passive" extracting its required voltage from the 1 wire net.  If your hub was a Hobby Board, I know it can also act as a power injector.  Mayhap your not feeding it what it needs.

And just for thought, I have a temp/humid and a solar sensor that was lightning damaged that will run fine passive but drop out when I try to connect a supplemental voltage.

You may want to checkout the Hobby Boards User Forum;

Take care,
Steve
