Dean misses Cayman
« on: August 21, 2007, 03:27:52 AM »
With a maximum gust of wind registered on the Island of 56mph we can say that Dean missed us.

Despite Windy's efforts we weren't able to test the enhanced wind speed limit in the program.

What is weird about Dean was that it passed directly over a NOAA buoy south of Puerto Rico as a Cat 3 (NOAA estimate) which registered a max wind speed of about 48kts. In Kingston,Jamaica at 50ft there was little wind but at 1200 ft there was severe damage. Seems the high winds being shown in the NOAA estimates were only experienced at higher levels.

We were told to expect 12+ inches of rain and got virtually none.

Whew are we glad to have been spared another Ivan,
