Davis Vantage Pro II Pricing
« on: October 25, 2007, 08:35:27 PM »
Hi Folks...

New to the forum and was wondering.... Is this pricing high or low
http://www.ambientweather.com/dainlowprqu.html

The reason I ask is I'm tired of the Lacrosse stuff and the weirdness in wind readings. So I'm going to change out equipment and would like to keep the price at or below $1000 usd

Thanks in advance

Ambient is usually about as good as you will get, the other vendor I use personally and would suggest you look at is www.provantage.com, they often have a better price on the accessories, like the weatherlink data logger/PC interface, but aren't so friendly (e.g. tough return policy) as ambient. Check the shipping cost too.

I bought all my stuff from provantage.

The other questions you should ask yourself.

Wired or wireless? (Wireless is more expandable)

Plus or non-plus? (More expensive initially but less if you buy the sensors later)

Fan aspirated or not? (Personally, I say get it)

WD; Davis VP2 6153; Quickcam for Notebooks Pro; Boltek w/ Nexstorm; GRLevel3; Live NOAA radio

Thanks Guys....

I was thinking about Vantage Pro2 wireless 6163 . Ambient has it for $824 and about $25 in freight
(( http://www.ambientweather.com/61dawivaprop3.html ))

I have not gotten a price back from Provantage to see where they are at

Don't miss that you must also buy the weatherlink logger/PC interface if you want to connect it to a PC, it does not come with any PC interface. If the PC has a serial port then I suggest you get the serial version, a small number of users have found the USB version to be unreliable.

I think Provantage will beat Ambient's price initially, but I'm pretty sure Ambient will match their price if you call them.  As mentioned earlier, Ambient's return policy is more flexible (maybe "less rigid" would be a better way of putting it).  Depends on whether you think it's worth the slight risk of needing to return the unit, and whether it's worth it to call and ask Ambient for the price-match.

Hi Folks

Thanks for the input.....
Ambient won the day at almost $75 in savings. I do agree that the ad on items do appear to be priced better @ www.provantage.com. Items should show up Monday. I'll let know more as it arrives....

Thanks again

Was this because of a price match?

Hi There

Well it was a combo of things. Mainly freight cost was way lower and the rest was price matching.
