Output menu and manual help needed please
« on: February 05, 2010, 03:25:37 PM »
Hi folks, im a tad new to WXSim hence the noob questions below...

  • what is the output menu for?
  • when would you use it?
  • whats the best one to choose?

When running a manual and the Advection Data Entry box shows up, i click Reginaol and
go through the motions for the next part with the Metar and GFS, then click OK in the
Advection Data Entry box when its complete, but then the  Advection Data Entry box shows
up numerous times during the run, do i have to go through the Regional Data screen each time
or do i just press the OK and bypass it for the rest of them?
Kind regards

Simon

The output menu options are just choices of weather elements you'd like to see in the scrolling forecast.  There are nine 'suites' of them - whatever is most interesting or useful to you is what you should pick.  Note, though, that you can always go back and Retrieve data for dozens of different variables, for text or plots, using wret.exe (File/Retrieve in WXSIM).

After wind shifts (and sometimes there are many of them), you should really use Regional Advection each time, importing GFS model data for advection.  You should probably also do a smoothing option and also (first) try different flow curvatures (you have to import again after each change.

Hope that helps!
