WD, MovieMaker and Vista
« on: December 15, 2006, 03:29:57 AM »
Has anyone had success at getting moviemaker to generate daily and hourly videos uner Vista.  In all of my testing, the main problem with migrating to Vista was the WebCam to MovieMaker application.

Thanks,

Craig

what might work is a command line direct .exe call to windows media encoder, instead of going via the .bat file

i can get you a test version of movie maker to see if that works?

Brian - that would be great - either attach to email or give me a link when ready.

Thanks

i made the change for the last hour movie creation
note that that the finish.txt file will not get created, as its not been run from a .bat file
but, i will have to come up with ways around that

Brian - initial feedback.

Downloaded and installed the new moviemaker exec against a brand new totally updated Vista RC1 system.  Have installed a vanilla copy of the newest 10.36X.  At 11:06 moviemaker did it's thing and deleted all the files in the AlldayVideo folder and copied all the new jpg files and created the mpg file (which runs).  It did not complete the process.  No wmv file was created.  The start and finish txt files contain 1 line - do not delete.  No entries in the program event/error log.

Moviemaker did complete and close.

As an aside, the initial start up "Roll and Unroll" of the WD program does not show on the screen, and the Help About does not Show either.

note that its windows media encoder that creaetes the .wmv file, from the .mpg, and movie maker calls that, via the WMcmd.vbs file

re the start up roll, so it looks like the special effects is not working under Vista
re the help, about, there is a component that reports on certain windows functions,so that is not working either

What file(s) should I make sure are on the system?  I did not see any errors.  Maybe I need a Windows Media Player update?

so you have installed windows media player?
because that is launched via that visual basic script file, then that would need to have security clearence i guess too>
the WMcmd.vbs file (windows media encoder command line script), is also actioned by windows csscript.exe
so thats something else to check on under vista

Brian - I opened Vista MovieMaker, and dragged the mpg created in the alldayvideo folder, and told it to make a wmv and it did it. I was able to create, see and run the lasthour movie.

Do this help?  I was using the native Vista moviemaker application.  Below is the last portion of the moviemaker window as executed from the WD folder.  I am not sure why it thinks the files are dated 12/30/99 because all dates and system and WD are correct, and if that makes a difference.

the bottom line is
does
WMcmd.vbs
work with the windows version of windows media encoder?
(which is executed via the windows csscript.exe )

Brian - downloaded and installed Windows Media Encoder 9, and when I tried to make the movie by clicking on make movie in the WDWebcamcapture program, the MPGs got made, but when the cmd exec kicked in the following popped up.  It has to do with Data Execution Prevention, and I tried to turn it off for the CMD.exe, but the system would not allow it.  It did open the DOS box and, so I am wondering if it is the cmd that is the problem, or an exe being called during the process....  It did say Console Based Host Script

I agree - I can open a dos box under Vista, and I get the same error when I execute the cscript.exe along with the vmcmd.vbs file.
