What do I need, if anything....
« on: November 22, 2006, 08:00:41 PM »
If I purchase the Pro1 or the Pro2 what do I need to be able to view the data on my computer. Do I need anything?  Also, is the software that comes with the WS3610 really that bad? Thanks......Sid

Sid,

You will have to purchase WeatherLink (which comes with either a USB or Serial cable to connect from the computer to the console) in order to view data on your computer.

are you talking about the lacrosse 3610 here, or a davis VP?
the la crosse 3610 comes with the heavy weather softare
if thats all you need and want, then no need to look any further

I'm fairly set on buying a Davis. Was just curious about the 3610. From everything I've read the Davis is the way to go. Does anyone see any problems mounting the Davis on a pier over the water? My pier extends out 100' and I would mount it on a 20' pole. Any problems with the temp sensor being over water? I chose the pier because of the lack of obstacles affecting the wind sensor.Thanks....Sid

it its going to be in  a marine environent, then you definatly need to use better quality, eg Davis

being over water migth lead to incorrect temperatures, when there is not much wind...as the water temperature would moderate the local temperature....e,g night temperature would not get as cold, etc

I assume you plan to buy a wireless station. Ideally you should mount your ISS about 5' above a grass surface away from trees and other obstructions. In your case the ISS should also be far enough away from the water so that it isn't constantly subjected to spray. If you don't mind running a cable, the ISS and anemometer can be separated by up to 540'. I went with the remote anemometer transmitter kit which completely separates the ISS and anemometer. The remote wasn't cheap but it was much easier than ditch digging and stringing wire.
