There are de-fogging products sold for motorcycle/ski goggles like "cat crap" (really :) ) that could be an alternate solution to the condensation problem.

One can buy panel heaters, similar to then one i use for the 2nd leaf wetness sensor

Coyote,

Is there a rule that goes against the HOA for allowing me to have one?

Just curious... :)

My webcam is inside. Never had a problem with fogging, and it gets cold here in the winter. On the other hand, I don't heat this place as much as the "normal" USA family does and the humidity inside is rather low in the winter. Someday I want a cam with a wide angle lens!

I would think that the HOA might reasonably include some rules to protect the privacy of residents. So if you point your webcam out of the window at the sky then I don't think they would/could object too much. If you point it at other people's houses so that you can see into any windows or see people in their gardens then I think they might object. Too be honest I think many people would object at the intrusion of a webcam into their home. I think people here would complain if I did it and that's without a HOA in operation.

I agree, HOA or no HOA I would be upset by that too. I crop the image from my one webcam so it doesn't do that.

My cam is positioned to specifically miss anyone walking by...

I would think that if the Cam showed some treetops and sky there could be no valid objection by your HOA and personally would get a cam and position in that manner and not even concern myself with the HOA...

I would have to disagree with that statement.  At least around here, had a situation where someone put a US flag in their window, on the inside, they were told you can't do that.  Also around Christmas time these HOA's make the news for forcing someone to take down lights or religious symbols from their windows.

When people buy into an abode that has these associations they agree to be bound by the rules.  As you can see from Tim's experience the results are not what most people would expect if using common sense.  It's much better to read the rules before making the purchase.

That's for sure...I have learned my lesson!

I think I will have a talk with the lady that is head of the HOA regarding the webcam.

With all your HOA stuff, maybe I missed it, but how did you manage to install your weather station with all these rules?

Stan,

Are you referring to the "New Anemometer Installation" topic, or just mounting my weather station in general (back in November)?

Just your ISS -

Stan,

I installed my ISS (and originally my anemometer) in my backyard attached to a RadioShack 15' mast back in November of last year.  (Remember, though, that I installed the anemometer of my old OS WMR-968 station on that 15' mast last summer.)  I never asked the HOA for permission, and basically took the chance, assuming that they would send me a letter telling me to take it down.  It has been about a year since I have put the 15' mast up in my backyard, and no letter from the HOA.  I'm assuming that since the mast is on "my" side of the fence and no one has complained about it, then I am able to keep it there.
