The KBDI is fairly easy to calculate and is (lets say) self repairing if the official number is not available and you have had to use an estimate.  This is a page I 'borrowed' from a registered user page in the BOM.

And here is the link again to the application for calculating the fire danger, for anyone who has missed it in the past.

Would it be possible to make it user selectable, ie. use the original WD method or use this new method to calculate FWI?

When does fire season start for you guys in the southern hemisphere?  Things have quieted down around here finally.

I am planning on adding this new formula....i have the web site open on that page....but my list of things to do is always very long...

been some good spring rain around alot of NZ lately, so things are OK here
but some places can start to dry out in november, especialy with the prevailing el nino (more drying SW winds)

Things are very dry around here at the moment, the fire danger in the area has been 'Very High' for quite some time.
No rain and plenty of wind does not make for very nice conditions. :-(

Same here in WA. I've already attended 3 bush fires that got away from us. Even with some of the rain we've had we are still on "High"

warm conditions today, low dew point, fire conditions are high
WD is report a FWI of 2.5 (lower than yestrerday, i think becasue of the light winds)

I was able to get all the start-up values for my area from the National Weather Service Office in Valley, NE. Look at the climate data they post. You should find your answers there for USA sites.

My readings are still low, despite fires withing 400 m of my property yesterday.

could it be the 24hr average temperature ?
With a min of 16c this morning and a max of of 36c the danger is between 10am to 4pm

It would be good if you could fix this up and perhaps make it a bit more user friendly Brian. I have tried to get it to run on my web page, but to no avail. I can't even seem to get it up and running. Where do we get the figures from for here in Tassie? Is there a basic setup procedure? If so, what is it? Thanks in advance again......
