iCamView
« on: October 06, 2005, 06:38:44 AM »
Ran into an interesting product the other day and have been chatting with what appears to be at least the distributor for it.  It looks like a cool device.

It is a small box that has two USB ports in it and an Ethernet port.  On top is a LCD screen (small).

You use it to connect up to two USB webcams to it and it has its own web server built into it.

This would allow you to throw a long ethernet connection to a remote part of the house, and then attatch a webcam to it.  No computer is needed, just network access.

They have sent me sample pricing along with MOQ200 pricing for it, and about 6 other camaras.  They have one that looks just like the Smilecam, and a couple outdoor like IR camears with tilt and swivel.

I am still clarifying that the iCamView can be used with other USB cammeras other than their own, they seemed iffy on that and some other details.

The sample pricing looks to be near retail but that is better than buying 200 of them to get the next to 50% discount :-)

the retail for the smilecam like one with the iCamView box looks to be about $180US.

They have a website at:

Units come out of Taiwan.

All you need is Time, Aptitude and Desire ... and you can build just about anything...

If you have wifi already (doesn't everybody?) all you need is a bridge ($50?) and one of these http://keyspan.com/products/usb/server/

Nope no WiFi here :)   Everything is cabled and at this point I wouldn't be interested in adding WiFi as all wires are in place.

A USB wireless cam would be nice to move around occasionally from front to back and side of house depending on sun and what was going on :)

I think that  a wireless webcam is somewhat of a misleading statement.  While it has not wired network connection, they do need power which is wired.

Most of the places that I would want to place one would not have power anywhere nearby so they kinda of miss the point.

All you need is Time, Aptitude and Desire ... and you can build just about anything...

I'm waiting for technology to move on. We've already got Power Over Ethernet. I'm waiting for Power Over WiFi so that I can have a truly wireless webcam

Uh oh, the secret's out, I've been working on that technology in my spare time, now, if I could only crack the size problem...

Is that the transmitter or the receiver? And why are all those people running away from it?

My invention will hit the market before that...

BLINKING INK..

You print it out and it blinks with no energy source.

BTW...I'm going to order a set of the iCAMView thingies.

All you need is Time, Aptitude and Desire ... and you can build just about anything...

You're too late with blinking ink. I worked out how to do that ages ago. It's interesting you thought of that...or have I mentioned it before somewhere?

Not sure what you are asking.

The iCAMview is a stand alone appliance that does not need a computer.

It has two USB 2.0 ports, one Ethernet Port and an LCD screen.

You plug the USB webcam(s) directly into the device and then set it up on your network using eithernet and it becomes a web server to provide the images, streaming video etc for you.  Again, it does not need to connect to your computer so it puts zero load on it.

All you need is Time, Aptitude and Desire ... and you can build just about anything...

as said here,

my way of thinking is, i just need a usb server and from there i add my webcam, as i have wireless network, i can grab the webcam picture from my network, to my pc and add the pic to WD and all works the same as i use to do before, when the webcam been directly connected to the pc.

other option!?
is there no divice where i plug in the webcam and the divice send the data wireless to the receiver, what is connected to the pc.

is there something out like this?
